OldTowner
Some questions regarding player positions v St Albans. 1, Does Noel Imber come off his line to collect crosses or play as sweeper to the defence, or command the back line in front of him ? 2, Is Dave Kendall first choice right back ? 3, Should Jordan Lockie be playing in mid-field ? 4, Is JOE Stevens a true left back ? 5, Should 20 goal a season Liam Hope be playing in midfield behind Gunz ? 6, Is Adam Wallace a true leader of the line ? If NO is the answer to any of the above, things ain't right !! Players appeared to be in these positions v St Albans ??
CD Towner
My answers: 1. No 2. Not much difference between Kendall and lockie for me 3. No 4. Stevens is the best LB we have and the only player in the ban line with pace 5. No 6. Not consistently enough.
The Crowing Cockerel
I'd suggest the first names on the teamsheet should be: Kirby, Hope and Wallace. After that, well, I guess its more of a question of "We haven't got anyone better, Gaffer!" Newing is trying to fit square pegs into round holes. IMO we need the following: An entire back 4 - yep, the defence is leaking like a sieve. I'd start by acquiring DEDICATED/EXPERIENCED Left and Right backs. A quality centre forward who is able to lead the line. Just look at the difference Scott McGleish made last season. And personally, I'd drop Imber for Chalk and see whether he can marshall the defence and decisively come for crosses. I'd also drop Wilde. His performances are really beginning to concern me. He may well have played at a higher level in the past, but at the moment he needs to show that he is good enough for the Ryman Prem. Rant over.
