This is what they say about him on the CUFC website:

A giant [6' 4"] but agile youth team goalkeeper who has been with the club from the age of 14 and has already featured on the bench for the first team on three occasions.

George has an admirable record when facing penalties and saved an unprecedented seven from ten last season, and saved another against Leeds United in the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup this January, in front of more than 2,000 supporters at the Abbey Stadium.

In the third year of his scholarship, this is a vital season for George and he spent a month on loan to Soham Town Rangers at the start of the season to gain experience of mens' football.

Crikey, I thought I was a cynic but I've got nothing on you guys! Even if the new keeper is only here for a month or two to gain experience, on Saturday's showing he will be worth having for that time. Fully deserving (along with Brown and De Souza) of his clean sheet and (almost) worth the entrance fee just to see him running along the line for the penalty save. And great to see Crawshaw back too - really made a difference up front with his battling back directly responsible for Deacon's goal.

Even given the level of opposition, much better all round. Let's hope it continues tomorrow.

Hi M&S.

Clark is with us on "work experience" from Cambridge Utd. I believe that clubs can only have two loan players at any one time and a total of 7 in any one season. "Work experience" is not a loan.

Tomlinson was injured in the warm-up thingy on Saturday [i think].

That will be 25 guineas. Fee account in the post.

As I can't start new topics apparently (why's that then?) I'll just stick it on here. It's amazing what you find on the Div 3 pages. Hope the Conference pages are just as good. May be of some interest...

Askey signs Abbey (Sky Sports Site)

Sunday, 16 November 2003

"Macclesfield Town have bolstered their goalkeeping options with the capture of Nathan Abbey.

Abbey has been persuaded to swap Luton for Moss Rose, signing for The Silkmen on non-contract terms.

Macclesfield had just Steve Wilson as an experienced keeping option, which prompted manager John Askey to raid the transfer market.

Askey was alerted to Abbey's availability and brought him in at the end of last week, and he will look to dislodge Wilson from his position as number one at Moss Rose".
