michael
not there (nor were many others) so can't comment on the specifics ,but from afar ,thats an ok result for me.. gut feel is that we are not a top 5 side ,and equally, etu are not a bottom half side-so am ok with the result. the most important game of the season is on Saturday-now that really is a must not lose game, and shock everyone by winning the replay
upthegate
Not much improvement on Saturdays poor performance im afraid. What's more worrying is that there were a few players out there tonight who looked like they really didn't want to be there. The amount of hoof ball tonight was unbelievable, and with the windy conditions was never going to work. One bright spot was Paul Vines who worked hard and deserved a goal for his efforts. Matt Bodkin should have started, as proved by the improvement in the shape and performance of the team when he did come on.
Blackz
Poor game, toothless performance. Very much like Saturday unfortunately. Glad that we nicked a point so quickly after going behind, but that's the only positive I can muster. Will admit that the conditions didn't help, but no excuse. We can play better, & hopefully the lads will get back into their stride sooner rather than later.
dflman
Correct - you were not there but those of us who were saw another display in line with that of last Saturday which was pretty inept. Sponsors may have picked Kinchie but everyone in my vicinity gave it to Paul Vines. East Thurrock were pretty toothless in attack otherwise they would have won by three or four with no problem. We need to sort out our defensive play quite soon. No idea why Bodkin was not put on until so late in the game. Got soaked getting home as well. Kingstonian manager was there tonight on spying mission. Saturday will be a trial unless we improve quickly
michael
similarly- i anticipate that our scouting network were in KT1 last night and their supporters were saying exactly the same thing
Always Gate
I thought the defence was ok, but the mid-field awful Avery and Kinch continue to play in each others pockets whilst the two wide men looked totally ineffective, 7 couldn't control or pass and 11 did nothing to contribute at all, hence the lack of opportunities for the forwards, the only accurate cross of the night came from Bodkins corner which resulted in the goal. My MOM would be Cox, timely tackles and plenty of energy for the whole game.

marksandwell
The way to look at it perhaps is, although we know we are not playing at our best, at this moment in time we are 4th -18 points from 9 games. We may loose a couple of position after tonights results, but we're still up there and capable of improving. Did the Dover thrashing do something to the confidence? I don't know. Are we still trying out too many combinations and new players in different position? I don't know. It has been commented on that if people come and see us play poorly they won't return - this surely is a back to basics education to potential supporters that this is what football is about at these levels, We know because many of us keep supporting year after year. Good days and bad days. We'll be ok this season I still think we can win this league, when we start firing on all cylinders.

Yes you are right those of us that have been going week in, week out, year in year out will continue to go and we understand what supporting a non league team is all about. The point is that poor football as a showcase doesn't help to encourage "new" support.
zorba
Okay, so after two poor performances, and as mentioned above, the need for a stable team (supported by impact players from the bench) Who would make up the best team from the players we have available now, which are the "must play" names (yes I know it's likely to be a matter of opinion and bound to be lots of disagreement).... or is it just necessary to rotate the squad to keep everyone happy? Who would be a football manager .............

Coffin Ender
Nothing much wrong with the team. One defeat in nine league games. The problem with matches like last night is that the windy conditions would be difficult for top-level players to master, let alone non-league. dflman
Not sure about Ademeno being fully fit - was terrific against Ashford in the friendly but was injured not long afterwards and not performed fully since . More or less agree with AG selection particularly Dolby in front of Campbell and Bodders in front of Cox which should mean the channels being used more. When Campbell goes off again does it put Dolby back to left back and Hesser Jr in midfield instead ? I really like the way Walsh and Paul Vines can get to the higher balls when they come in, something we have lacked before now. Still think that someone needs to get into that 'Scholes' position on the edge of the box - it came out there several times last night but nobody to seize on it. Of course we are all great managers and tacticians aren't we !
Cookie
Ok I'll have a go for fun Holloway Cox Vines Beales Campbell Bodkin Kinch Dolby Ademeno Walsh Vines Subs Avery Azeez O'niel Whitely. My team to win the league. Hmm I like the look of that line up however maybe a few tweeks to it for me. I presume young Hessentaler is still with us (just) and if so he needs to be used as much as possible in his short time here.If he is available replace Ademano with him (for now). Ademeno I like a lot,has lots of skill on the ball from what I've seen but lacks form at present and generally dosen't get others involved once he gets the ball. If he starts doing that he will improve his game I'm sure. I still think he will be a prolific scorer here but he needs a bit more time at the moment. Maybe when loanees go back he might be ready. I'd like to see Hessentaler kept on for another month but if that not be possible then he has done himself proud in his time being with us. I cannot understand why, despite Hessentaler being fit for the bench last night he wasn't in the starting line up last night. Similarly Bodkin. Both match winners i.m.o.with their distribution skills. What a waste on the bench. Looks to me like the boss has decided to give everyone a chance thus avoiding any personal disappointment/upset. Just my opinion there. We need to have our best players out there every time its possible,(injuries and suspensions allowing),players in form Whitley I like too. Gives defenders all sorts of problems as does Azeez. Both deserve a start but both will be equally effective coming off the bench should something different be needed but time on the pitch rather than just five minutes or so. Avery will always pop up with a goal here and there and Dolby looks to be more of an attacking midfielder and poses a different kind of threat. Either one to start will do for me with a possible swap later on. Saturday is going to be real tough and with our recent record re Cup games, together with Kingstonians form up till now plus the fact they they will be going all out to put matters right in the next game having been beaten at home we HAVE to take the game to them rather than allowing another opposition,at home,to dominate proceedings. We need to be "at em" much more than we are at moment. Time to be more "ruthless" in attack and even more solid in defence. We should be winning our home games, not struggling to get a point. We need this victory on Saturday very much.

Jab_n17
maybe the boss rested a few of the main players with the cup game at the weekend in mind, also the Kingstonian boss was there so not to show our 'trump cards' to him. Another thought maybe just maybe at this stage of the season a good cup run and more so the financial reward for a win and a good run is a bit more important.......The league points dropped here and there can be picked back up (fingers crossed) so long as we don't get to far off the top positions and as said one loss in 9 games (league) is good in my book......
