Munchkin
I was just checking player eligibility for this cup and noticed this rule. 10. SUBSTITUTES A Club may at its discretion and in accordance with the Laws of the Game use five (5) substitute players in any match in this Competition who may be selected from five (5) players except to replace a player who has been dismissed by the Referee after play has commenced. A player who has been substituted himself becomes a substitute and may replace another player at any time subject to the substitution being carried out in accordance with Law 3 of the Laws of Association Football. The Referee shall be informed of the names of the substitutes not later than fifteen (15) minutes before the start of the match. A player who has been selected, appointed or named as a substitute before the start of the match but does not actually play in the game shall not be considered to have been a player in that game within the meaning of Rule 8 of this Competition. (The above relates to Repeated Substitutions NOT Rolling Substitutions.) If I have read this correctly it means the following: I could name 5 subs and bring them all on I could name 1 sub but actually make 5 substitutions during the game Question I suppose is are the referees fully aware of this? I could imagine quite a bit of confusion if either club or referee are not.
Karen Browne
The County should have made all match officials aware of this rule
tringarmy
There was talk of doing this in a lot of leagues below Step 7 (I think the West Herts was one that were going to trial it last season) so being a "Junior" cup it sounds like something similar at county level. The thought process behind it was to get more people playing ie fully use a 16 man squad rather than 2 not being able to be involved at all (or for the fat wheezy kids to be able to waddle around for 5 mins then come off for a 10 minute rest before going back on) Some say it might suit my outfield game
petethegreek
In my opinion it's a Mickey Mouse rule. I was just checking player eligibility for this cup and noticed this rule.10. Munchkin
They are the same though as rolling are not restricted. Out of interest why do you think it is daft?
petethegreek
It's daft because managers will manipulate it. Imagine in the final minutes of a game that you are winning by a goal. Ball goes out of play and the manager wants to make a substitution. Seconds after the re-start the ball goes out of play again and the same manager now wants to make five substitutions and so on. He does this to break up the game and to time waste. On the other hand, the team that is losing the game asks you to add on time that is lost for the numerous substitutions. You could be there for some time.
Munchkin
But that's no different to now, substitutes can still be used in that way. It's quite a cynical view. What if a cup game is about to commence extra time after a very even game. One of the players has suffered an injury and can't continue. would you prefer the team to be able to make a substitution or go down to 10 men and potentially lose a match due to an injury. Unite MK FC
We had this rule last season with the reserves in this cup, bit confusing but workable.
Munchkin
Starting to see the benefits of this now, as we went down to 10 men on Saturday due to an injury and had used all our subs. A week too early for us though.
