Canvey Island vs Enfield Town

Well said Barney. 20 players signed or 30 doesn't make a difference to the finances . Steve wanted to keep it to 22 and at the start of the season that was the case. Since the season has kicked off ( East ( cover only ) ,Matata , Hammatt and Hahn have been added. Dean Pennant has left. With the injuries we have picked up these players who are experienced have given Steve some fall back. I would imagine that now the U21's are up and running Steve will want to see how these shape up to see if any of them are good enough maybe. I would rather be holding our own in the Ryman Prem right now rather than competing at the top end of the Ryman North. Mind you prior to Steve coming to the club for two seasons we were just holding our own in the Ryman North were we not. I agree Saturday was not good enough as do most who were there to witness it. We missed key players who are strong individuals both physically and mentally in conditions that we really needed them in.

I agree with you Barney. The squad as a whole is stronger than last season and, apart from last Saturday, is playing better football. If one looks at Kirbs then we are clearly fitter than last season.

However, there appear to be passengers in the squad with some able youngsters coming forward who should be replacing those passengers. Goal scorer Saturday Ossei - should he have been on sooner?

Why didn't we have the foresight to make use of the wind in the first half - not with long kicks forward but with high dropping balls into the penalty area. Surely our coaches should have been suggesting that.  As a Canvey said we did not test their keeper, a seventeen year old, once.

In second half our link up play, apart from Lee Allen who was good throughout and his booking was one for the team, was poor and that was our weakness.

It doesn't sound good last Saturday and certainly points lost given Canvey's recent form. Anyway we need to move on and focus on tomorrow night. Some positives:

1 - We have 10 points from 8 games (compared to 7 points at this stage last season).

2 - Still unbeaten at home.

3 - Osei - 2 goals in 2 games. Surely Old Towner will agree that he is another valuable addition to the squad this season.

Osei is improving with every game, and Corey Whitely is slowly making progress - cutting out the show pony moves and doing a massive amount of work tracking back.

Add in Wild and the squad is a bit stronger, and most of them now have a year's experience of playing at this level.

One bad performance in very windy conditions is not a cause for concern yet (and a freak winning goal as well). But we do need to tighten up drastically away from home. I'm not averse to parking the bus at times and letting the pace we do some counter attacking.

I'll gladly trade these four away defeats for a win at Clarence Park on Saturday. Would love a cup run.

The team have got out there and get at St Albans...no worrying about how much budget they got...thats an excuse for a defeat before we got there.

Park the bus 0-1 or a five star 0-3...I'll take either!!!
