Graham C
For Neil and Jon and for discussion................... I didnt hear any abuse on Saturday but most of us would not condone it.............indeed even on here many of us make a policy of not getting at individuals even if moaning about team performance---------but opinions are discussed during and after games and can include views that so and so had a mare today or why do they keep picking this guy etc. This is all part of being paying customers and happens at all levels of football..........at higher levels which are reported in the press, the journos give marks out of ten and it is not unknown for figures like 4 or 5 to be given, which is an even stronger way of saying that players played poorly. I would hope that the abuse referred to comes from an odd fan letting an opinion be expressed too strongly and didnt include four letter language. Again at premier or international matches we have all heard vociferous moans and this includes colourful critiques of individuals who in some opinions were especially poor that day. Yes----we had high expectations for this season --we have had four seasons of being agonisingly close to promotion and a management change is usually made by a board to bring improvement, which in our case can only mean going up this year.............and when we use the word "we" it is Slough Town that is meant not last years Godalming side. At that club it is likely that expectations were exceeded by the way you worked......you have admitted that Slough is a bigger club in terms of history and fan base so expectations are naturally higher, especially after the (comparative) success just referred to. Things will improve (I am as sure as many) but it has to start now and the disappointing results(and lets face it disappointing performances also) need putting behind us and excuses regarding absences becoming a thing of the past--you were both of the opinion that the squad could support these sort of situations---absences dont entirely explain the performances that everyone (including you guys) know are not acceptable--you have said as much on the forum and to the press. Shame you are deciding not to respond at present as hearing your views was refreshing for us and I hope you resume this before long .................we are mostly long term passionate supporters who want the best for our club, whoever is playing or managing and all comments are with this in mind as we try to keep the faith ! readingrebel
Graham, I would be happy with an improvement on last season i.e. play-offs as we didn't even achieve that last season. We have played 4 league games and I have been happy with the performances at Uxbridge and Kettering (although against a disappointing Kettering team). I'm happy and prepared to give the team time to get things right on and off the pitch.
Neil Baker
Graham, I have not seen the article yet, so am unable to respond properly until I have read what has been said, as I know what I said to Rob, but how much has been printed I don't know. When I have seen it, I will let you know my comments... Also when Unders mentioned not posting, that will be more about opinion of the game etc, and getting into debates, we will still furnish you with injury news, albeit maybe on a reduced amount for the time being. At the end of the day we need to focus our efforts on getting the players ticking... and that is what we shall do. As throughout all this, the truth is we believe/know that the lads can give us better than we have got (in some games) and in that respect we totally understand peoples frustrations, and taking aside the injuries and unavailability we would still have hoped to have been in a better position than we are. Neil Baker
Graham, I have read the article now, and all I can say is when talking to the paper, I mentioned I was disgusted with one person... not the Slough fans in general (however I did call for everyone to get behind the team, as it does help,)... someone berated Ben Edwards with poor language, and it was not acceptable, and I was angry with that. However I should say the majority of people have been great...... For me the matter is closed now, and we will move on in general and concentrate on a tough game up at Rugby tomorrow.
