Blackz
Painful reliving that again. Don't want to dwell too much over things (experimental lineup, not an important game etc) but two things are painfully obvious from that clip - O'Neil needs to work on covering his angles better (could be down to rustiness & hope his confidence isn't shot to pieces after that game) Emmanuel-Williamson did not look like a centre back at all, again not sure if down to rustiness or lack of understanding with Bealesy, having been the first time they've played in defence together. Genuinely looked like he was playing out of position, even though he's apparently played there before. On the plus side, we were a lot better second half & got some good passing moves going. Hopefully the lads learnt a lot from that night, & its onwards and upwards for Saturday
michael
I understood MEW was a striker ,so seems he was playing out of position-even if he had played there occasionally before. credit to him for giving it a go. apart from that-it was not that much of an experimental side-although maybe it would have been better playing L'Anson alongside beales with MEW in attack One thing it maybe does expose is that as a few remarked from start of season-woefully short in central defence-avery,l'anson (who most would say should be in midfield anyway) beales, and possibly vines
BlueGate Alan
Surely 4 players who can play there should be enough?
michael
yep they can play there, but are avery and l'anson better in midfield-and is the quality quite there in some instances ? arguably it is having had 3 clean sheets; and can't argue with that is vines back for saturday ? Paul H
1st goal. Keeper had loads of time to get over for that one. Foot work not quick enough!2nd. Keeper starting position should have been further forward. He hesitated and should have gone through the player 1 on1!3rd the wall never covered the right hand side of the goal. Look at the keepers starting position.Terrible penalty text book save by keeper!4th goal keeper should have cut the angle down by being 2-3 yards further forward making himself big.5th it looks like he goat a hand to it. Not a lot he could have done!6th was a terrible back pass. No chance with that one!7th. Could have got an extra step in (keeper) footwork! Good goal though!8th I don't know! Poor defending.Just to say I am not damming the keepers display. It's just being one myself for 20 odd years, I notice these things. It just proves how difficult it is to come in without much match practice. Been there, done that and got the t-shirt and got back ache from Picking the ball out of the back of the net after drummings like that. I'm pretty sure Craig would look at that as a keeper and say the same as well as criticise the defence. One thing is for sure. Keeper needs match practice to boost his confidence. Just noticed he's just 19 so he will learn loads from that game. Quite often at his age it's make or break with keepers. Some give up and some carry on and get better with age. Was impressed with him against Ramsgate. Get him in the Under 21's for some match practice and alternate between the keepers if he's going to sit on the 1st team bench ie u21's and bench warmer 1st team.
