FA Cup v Cirencester (a)

Recommended Posts

not there myself but really worried about how badly this season has gone so far. we are in trouble this season if we cannot get the strongest team fit and available, start taking our chances and tightening up the defence.

I think we've got the same points this season as we had at the same stage last season. So perhaps not that badly.

Thanks for the twitter feeds Gary. It looks like we had a lot of chances.

If we dont do well in the league this year at least we cant blame the FA Cup run.

Hope we can now concentrate on getting some players fully fit so that we can improve our league performances.

Well done to the loyal supporters who made the trip.

that Saturday off hopefully we can get everyone fit and by the game after that we will be close to full strength and the excuses won't cut it anymore. performances need to be found from somewhere and soon. unfortunately quite a few teams have seemingly hit the ground running in the league and have already pulled well away from us after only a handful of games.

i believe that we can definitely go on long unbeaten runs but at the moment its hard to be really positive about the next few months. long way to go though and just gotta desperately hope we can find that form

Oh dear.....simply shocking......I hope the budget isn't compromised because of this early unplanned exit ??

These under performers need to step up quickly or be shipped out sharpish otherwise all the change is in danger of delivering little or nothing...All quiet from the management at the moment....can't keep blaming injuries....some of these prima donnas need to show something...and quick !

On reflection, I'm not sure the problem really lies with our defence, the problem is further forward where we were losing out on all the second balls in midfield and upfront. We seem to be struggling the most with creating solid chances and getting opposition keepers to make good saves. As a result we tend to lose the ball when we're trying to attack and eventually any pressure created tells in the defence - we have only conceded one goal max in all except the Beaconsfield game so it's not terrible. We do have a very promising attack so I'm hoping that soon things will start to click, and conceding one won't be do bad if we're creating chances and out scoring the opposition.

I thought last night Sean Fraser had another good game, and Wheeler was getting plenty of balls in the box but as I said we were losing out on a lot of half chances. A shame to see another injury in Wes Harrison, one day our managers will have the full squad all fully fit to choose from and hopefully that will make things better.

We must keep the faith and back the team. The players are not going to gain belief and confidence from people on the terraces moaning at full volume about it. Whether things come together sooner or later remains to be seen but it's only fair that we give the new managers the time to get this squad playing as we know they can.

COYR!

It's no doubt been a very frustrating start to the season and not one that many of us would have expected. It's very unfortunate that so many players are picking up injuries and it could well be a month before we have a fully fit squad to choose from. I'm sure I won't be the only one to think that by then we could be so far off the top 5 and being out of the FA Cup it could be a season that promised so much that we end up just wanting to end. So do the managers go and sign more players to compensate for the injuries/loss of form in the short term or stick with it and hope results/performances improve very soon?

I too do not want to jump on any bandwagon and am 100% behind our managers. Nobody knows what is going on behind the scenes budget wise etc.

However, if the rumours of a significantly lower budget are true then I believe it would be better to realign our seasons expectations.

At the start of the year fine, every manager thinks they can win the league and our current crop of players showed that they can be consistent after an impressive season last year. However, for whatever reason we have not started how we thought, I think it is not completely down to injury as we have been quoted as saying all 18 or so of our squad can do a job.

Perhaps come October it would be good to set a goal based on what has happened during Aug/Sep. That way supporters are more likely to be lenient and get behind the team.

Not too upset about going out of the cup in football terms(financially is different), but a situation of not winning anything is the worry, especially if the Kettering demise is confirmed.

Yes there are injuries and some (to us)unexplained absences but the team performances on the whole are not good enough, tho it is hard to criticise individuals. I hope that the free time after Saturday is given to working on things, for frank exchanges and honest talking all round to try and redress the issues

After all when most of us talk about getting out of this league we did mean upwards !

With posts like yours RV I'm not surprised our managers have stopped replying.

What club in their right mind would budget for an FA cup run?

We are only 4 league games into the season and your coming up with this type of post calling players 'under performers' and 'prima donnas' and for players to be shipped out sharpish if things don't improve quick.

Whether you like it or not when so many key players get injured it does have a big impact on teams at our level with the small resources that we have.

As far as I'm concerned these types of posts will do more harm than good.

Didn't catch all the details but there seems to be some sort of campaign being done on Talk Sport to help Kettering.

In my opinion that was an abysmal game played by two abysmal sides, in which the slightly less abysmal team deservedly won!  Not having much opportunity to watch these days, this was my first chance to see the new team, if much changed from what should be the team due to injuries.  When I remarked at half time that this was poor, was told that this was one of our better performances.  If this is the case, it will be a long hard season.  I have faith in the managers, and good players do not become poor overnight, but something is not right at the moment, and it can not all be put down to injuries.  To me Cirencester looked a team, we did not.

There was more excitement in the motorway café than at the game.Must not use injuries as an excuse not to field best team( surely that is why we have a squad of 18 )wasn't it Cloughie who said when the team is winning the treatment table becomes redundant?

The other thing that amazes me is all this talk of a lesser budget-what happened to all those thousands from last years cup run?

I agree with some of the above posts we seem more likely to be fighting relegation than promotion!

I could give lessons in pessimism but even I think expectations are unrealistically high. I have to confess to moaning occasionally, usually fairly quietly but I think a mid table finish this season would be quite an achievement when considering all that has taken place since the end of last season. Of course, I accept there is plenty of work to be done to even get to that point but I reckon some patience is required. I have been eyeing that camera gantry on the halfway line and might consider bringing a length of rope for later in the season. I would need a volunteer to operate the trap door so please form an orderly queue.

Sorry grandad didnt think it was abysmal at all, I think the game could of gone either way, in fact I think we were the better side in the second half. The goal came late in the second half from someone totally unmarked inside the far post and they had a clear shot on goal. I have also seen us play a lot worse than that with last years team and but because we won obviously everyone was happy.

Unfortunately we do have a lot of injuires, Ed even had come on  and his knee was heavily bandaged. Also it was nice to see Dominic play, but not sure he is completey over his injury yet.

As for all the thousands from the F A Cup last year, as Aidan said before to someone, why dont you go and ask Steve Easterbrook what he did with the money, he is very approachable. I  dont suppose paying wages, paying Beaconsfield, buying kit and various other things like keeping us going had anything to do with it !!!

Trust me, Aidan and I saw the boys play at full strength at Biggleswade and it was a pleasure to watch, lets just hope they all get  injury free soon and get behind them.

Oh and Hotspur, you can always stay in the motorway cafe, I am sure most people on here would be quite happy with that.
