lazarus
Still no web site access so here is a brief summary of last night's Suburban League match: Following Saturday’s close defeat at Molesey, the Suburban team were quickly back to winning ways on Monday evening, beating Westfield Res by two goals to one. For much of the first half, Ashford looked pacey and were generally in control, with Leke Somule giving the Tangerines the lead inside six minutes. A lively game ensued and on 40 minutes Ashford doubled the lead courtesy of Jordan Whitter who cut in from the right flank before steering a low effort past the visiting keeper. Westfield did not lay down by any means but early in the second period suffered a self inflicted blow when their keeper, by his own admission, deliberately clattered an Ashford forward just outside the area when a third goal looked on the cards. He was sent off but as sometimes happens it was the ten men of Westfield who seemed to take the match by the scruff of the neck. Ashford were not helped by a nasty looking knock incurred by Joe Lynch who had to be helped off but it was Westfield who looked more likely to score the next goal. This they did through Liam Partington but it did not arrive until stoppage time and Ashford saw the last few minutes safely through to return to the top of the table. Just a reminder that the 1st Team are off to Cheltenham this evening for the FA Cup replay against Bishops Cleeve, kick-off 7.45 p.m. We have a 29 seat mini bus so there is a little room left for any supporters wishing to travel (£10 per head). Meet time is 3.45 pm to be away at 4.00 pm.
