The kind of programme the BBC should be making and something they do so much better than other broadcasters, looking forward to the rest of the series. Always admired  Judaism, a thinking mans religion, from Einstein to Larry David the Jews have always been the most subversive race of people and they killed Jesus,Reform Judaism is the only vaild religious movement in the world today.

Certainly very interesting.

I wouldn't say that any faith is any more valid than the other - it is all about consensus of opinion.  Who is to say that Pastafarianism is wrong, for example?  To those who worship that religion the idea of worshipping an invisible God who had a son born of a virgin (so Jesus obviously wasn't from the valleys, as they couldn't find any virgin nor wise men!) is ludicrous.  I was born Catholic but now class myself as Deist - I believe in a creator of the world, bearing in mind the intricate order, form and design of our beautiful world.

The only side of Jewishness I am uncomfortable with is Zionism.

I certainly wouldn't classify Christianity as a valid religion, its basically a movement which values pity and sentimentality above all the finer human emotions and we can all surely agree that Roman Catholicism was purely established for the systematic rape of young boys. Most Jews are certainly not Zionists, they have always been very cosmopolitian people with enlightened ideas in the political sphere.

I'd have to say that is a slightly immature view of Catholicism.  It is the people, not the faith that is to blame.

It is like saying that if a Manchester United fan is a paedophile then they are all paedophiles.  Or that all Catholics are Protestant haters, because of the IRA or because a Muslim nutjob was behind 9/11 then all Muslims by association are all terrorists.

However, I agree that the Jews certainly have a lot of clout and and ideologies at the political level.

sorry but do you have any idea what Roman Catholicism is based on?? the Original Sin? is this not a religion which tells children they are worthless and born in sin,its been the same since the Sale of Indulgencies,Jesus was not tainted by sin as his mum and dad never had sex !! that's what I would describe as a immature view !!

It is also a religion which (although far from perfect) teaches a lot of good things - understanding, love, tolerance, respect, humility, courage, dignity.

It is only the bigots and morons in this (and other religions) that ruin things.  Most religious people are perfectly normal and nice - not all of them are like the Westboro Baptists or Richard Reid.

I believe in a God but I have not raped children, slaughtered my enemies in the name of God, shouted down an atheist for not believing what I believe or blown up half of Ireland.  Now, where did I go wrong/right...

To put an atheist's perspective on this:-

I think that religion has been used far too often as an excuse for wars.

No problem with people having their own beliefs, that's a good thing (mostly) - just don't kill each other over it.

Jews are not an exception to this by the way.

it is a religion which tells young boys that God watches them masturbating, a religion obsessed with sex, is it any wonder that it produces so many paedophilles, any religion which tells people that sex is sinful is pretty fcked up. Reform Judaism is the only grown up religious movement in the world today, many Reformed Jews don't even believe in God which is not the ultimate contradiction it may seem.

You're being naive if you think ANYONE in Ireland was ever killed for their religious beliefs. It was because "usually" that belief coincided with their political stance, not always but mostly.

It was mainly as Hookey says Protestants protecting their interests against a discriminated Catholic minority, probably more to do with jobs and poverty than religious doctrine.

Hookey, I know the reasons behind the troubles in Ireland.  I was playing it a bit cute.

The late, very great comedian, Dave Allen, who despised catholicism ALWAYS finished his show on television with........

"................. and may your God go with you !"

So very true !
