that's because of the French tax breaks, on his wages he was taxed a higher percentage by the French government than the amount of tax he had to pay on his publicity and franchise earnings, that meant that he earnt more from his other incomes than he did from his wages after tax, therefore giving his wage from P.S.G. wasn't really a hard decision to make, or am i being cynical !

The official statement on the Kettering website says that a settlement figure of £50000 was verbally agreed with Rushden & Diamonds 2008 Ltd.It also says a figure of £70000 was demanded yesterday. Does this mean the total involved is £20000 (70000 - 50000) or £120000 (50000 + 70000).

It also says the Southern League has sanctioned their next two games away to Dunstable (tomorrow) and away to Aylesbury United (Sat).

It will be ironic and sad if the Aylesbury game is their last ever fixture as it is "NON LEAGUE DAY".

Having been through what Kettering fans are going through I wish them all well. To hear your club is to die is a feeling you wouldn't wish upon anyone. Sadly, I very much doubt Kettering will be the last. Until clubs start living within their means I.e. making sure what you're spending isn't higher than your income every season and to stop putting players and players wages first, many more will start suffering the same fate. Personally, the best thing we've ever done at Windsor is to stop paying a budget, local players who want to play for club, happy environment, no moaning about one player is paid more than another, and we're unbeaten in the league so far. It's a model I just wish all clubs at step 4 and 5 at minimum would adopt.

Thats all well and good if you are happy to be playing park football, but you are right in the fact that you cannot pay out more than whats coming in. Thats what dictates spending ie a budget.

I have to disagree HP9, in that I would happily argue all day long that the current Windsor squad would survive and be a comfortable lower to mid table in the central and south west league, if all clubs did the same, it's an even playing field. It comes down to balls whether or not you're willing to take the gamble to find out - many would be surprised. We certainly have been. We thought the world would cave in when our budget was pulled last season. In the end we finished four places lower in the table and saved crazy amounts of money which can be invested in our long term security. This season we've started off better than last season and we're not paying any money out. With now Kettering the latest example, how long before others follow suits, clubs need to put themselves rather than players first. Last season, I'd say you guys had one of the strongest teams in the league, your wage bill at a guess, was probably around £2k a week, that's £80k over a 40 week season. That £80k which is now lining the pockets of players who have all moved on, multiply that by four seasons you've been trying to get promotion and that's £240,000. Have you progressed as a club? If someone gave you £240k to plough into the infrastructure of your club, would you arguably of progressed further?! The other surprising thing for us at Windsor was if you have the right group of players, money isn't always the primary motivator. We didn't lose any key players over the summer, despite many receiving significant offers. While the players we had last season that jumped just because money was no longer going to be paid, many are either clubless or playing at an even lower level (O'Toole, Parsons, Chandiram, Ellis, Porter, etc etc). You realise just how much talent exists locally, which just aren't getting given a chance, yet all they want is to be given that chance to prove themselves, at the moment we are reaping the benefit of that. Interesting times, I just think football at our level needs to change it's thinking and put the club first. Happy Tuesday!

As a further casing point, we had Ryan O'Toole up front for us at the beginning of last season, he scored 40 goals the year before, we paid him a wage, you paid him a wage. Yet now, ask any Windsor supporter, and I'd ask Windsor Rebel this as well, as he has seen a number of our games last season, would they rather have Ben Harris (zero wages) or Ryan O'Toole (wages) in their starting 11 and Ben Harris would win every time. Not because of wages, but because he's a far superior all round forward, highlighting that local talent exists, they are just desperate for a chance.

Geggy, Windsor didn't have the 'balls' as you put it you were forced into it otherwise you would still be doing the same as the rest of us, and quite happy to do it.

Also, the money that you are supposedly saving? were is it being or going to be spent?

Reading Rebel - not strictly correct, our first season we paid a budget, it's called lessons learnt, and taking the decision (or having the balls!) last season which we did, after recognising during our first year that paying a budget wasn't the way forward. And yes, that is indeed what we're saying!

Don't kid yourself that Harris is not being !
