Eastside Urchin
Can't beat memories, obviously ours are limited to the last 15 years or so ,apart from the odd glimmer of hope for a few matches a season as a child and the odd decent cup run in the 80s and 90s,would of liked to been a kid growing up with hornchurch being more successful in my youth but hopefully my children can instead
blue pilgrim
It wasn't only Chelmsford, even the Brentwood derby attracted big gates and the games were often quite fiesty compared to today's non contact game. Players didn't dive then, they were chopped down properly lol. Think I remember 9000 for a cup game at Brooklands v Gillingham. Looking forward not back is right but it is sad that the non league game cannot attract bigger gates, especially as the cost of attending the top division clubs is now beyond many people. On my occasional visits to Chelsea, it is noticeable that the 25-45 age group is under- represented ie those with young families and big debts. When Romford are playing away I like to go and watch D&R and families are represented at quite an acceptable level. One side of the ground is a designated family area where they have a zero tolerance to bad language. My own view is that bad behavior by people old enough to know better, is what is at least partly responsible for low gates at our level.
