A couple of views from Groundhoppers on another forum

FA Cup Preliminary Round

Uxbridge 5 - 1 Stotfold

Admission £8

Programme, didn't ask how much

Small coffee 0.80p

I wanted to see a game with goals and went for a tie that was at least a division apart, and I got them.

Stotfold took the lead with a cross that beat the keeper in on of those shall I come or leave it moments. Uxbridge then started to get going, equaliser was a penalty, bullet header after 14 minutes made it 2-1 and remained that at half time.

Second half Uxbridge kept pressing and got a third before a mouthy player for Stotfold got sent off, pretty sure both his yellows were for dissent, had a right strop walking off and reminded of how I acted when I was twelve. Anyways, Uxbridge netted a couple more, last goal was a sublime lob from man of the match Matt Woods, constant threat all game although against lesser opposition, he made some great runs.

Pretty tidy performance from Uxbridge, will try and catch them again when away at a ground I haven't covered.

Didn't venture into clubhouse due to still being steaming from watching QPR win earlier in the pub, coffee and fresh air was just what was needed.

FA Cup Preliminary Round

Kings Langley 2-1 Newport Pagnell Town

Adm £5 inc prog, bacon cheeseburger £2.50, coffee £1

A lovely day in Hertfordshire and an underdog victory for Spartan Div 1 over the UCL Premier. Particularly satisfying given the loud dismissive comments about the Spartan league from a few of the NP people.

Not a game of many chances and the first goal, to the visitors came from a corner which really shouldn't have been given. A lot of whining from the home side at the time but they did eventually decide to get on with it and were level with a brilliant strike from the corner of the box which was still rising as it hit the inside of the stanchion.

The second half was a bit flatter with one clear cut chance for each side spurned. But the last 15 minutes picked up as both sides realised that they could win it on the day. It was the home side that did so again from a corner. The first effort bounced down on or near the line but to avoid any controversy was rammed home from inches out. They were able to see out the last 6 minutes pretty comfortably.

A little stand on the road side with a few dozen seats in two rows and, bizzarely, eight more outside, otherwise flat hard standing all round. Good food available and a bar in the clubhouse.

3-0 flattered North Greenford today, We went 1-0 down, worked our way back into it, but got done towards the end.

Who scored for North Greenford United ?

Was thinking of going to the game but ended up at Southall v Stony Stratford Town instead. Southall deserved the win and should have scored more goals. I thought Stony Stratford Town were poor.

A massive game for Southall on Tuesday.

2-2 Risborough Rangers v Baldock Town

Grateful to take a point from this one. Bit of an Ask the Ref question though where the Baldock No 9 stood with his back to our keeper blocking him from clearing the ball, but didn't move. Our keeper then kicks the ball into his back and the ref gives us a free kick and books the Baldock player even though there was no obvious foul. One of many strange decisions I'm afraid.

If the player deliberately blocked or attempted to block the ball as the goalkeeper released the ball from his hands then the Referee would be correct to caution the player for Unsporting Behavior and award an indirect free kick.

Harry Walker is a bit of a giant eh ? he's got to be at least 6ft 7 ? Did you have to mark him ?

Aaron Silcott ex Hanwell Town FC player.

Yes marked him and had a good battle with him. His goal was a tap in from a corner where our goalkeeper failed to hold on to the ball. Silcott came on as a sub and turned and scored. We were chasing the game having gone 2-0 down.

I didn't think North Greenford were that good to be honest, and if you saw the game you probably wouldn't have guessed that there is a division difference between the two teams. I think they'll struggle in their league
