michael
I think whatever team had played last night-we were on a hiding to nothing. Dover players (and manager) had a lot too prove and justify, and unfortunately-we were just in the firing line Thety probably would have beaten Barcelona last night as they were ultra hungry for a win was expecting a 4-1 -even 5-1 loss; but must confess didn't envisage 8-0. as posted above though-you probably learn more by losing 8-0 than 4-2. disappointing but can live with it. I do think we have to be careful of overplaying the 'young card' too much. I don't really see that SOHO could have picked a much different side; and there were 4/5 regular first team players out there, and the remainder were not academy players-but first team squad members playing for a regular start; so is it correct to justify it by saying young/inexperienced ! Equally quite a few of our players have conference experience-whitely and cox have both played at that level;and azeez has played quite a few games at conference national! Not there-so can't comment on specifics but I imagine where we did fall short is that this 'team' had never played together before-probably in a few instances-never met before !! Unlike Mark and blueblood, the thing for me that is most disappointing is to concede twice immediately after the re-start. Was'nt there-so it may have been different but the first rule of football is if you are thumped in the first half-you sort it out at half time-and try and make something of the second half. By conceding twice in five minutes of second half-does that show a bit of mental fragility-or just incapable of taking on board and follow instructions that I am sure SOHO will have given at half time. to me -that isn't very good. Putting all that aside-I am sure the fact that no-one had met/played together before was the most important factor last night-and not so much young (they aren't that young)and inexperienced (not true either in a lot of instances ). Just a bad night-but it happens 2/3 times a season; and long term probably an (almost )good thing
