I think I'll have to disagree with some of what's been said.

I thought our defence did pretty well today with Blounty, having his first full game for us, showing that he will be a big asset when fully fit. Also thought Ryan Lake had a good game. Pity that one mistake by Wes led to their goal, apart from that I thought he had a good game as well.

Mid-field is still worrying with the lack of composure and creativity still an issue.

Our forwards are not firing yet but at the same time our mid-field are not creating anything positive for them to feed off.

I thought Wheels, despite his injury, had another good game.

The injury front seems worse than I thought with seemingly Guy Hollis, Warren Harris, McClurg, Adam Foulser and George Short not able to play today through injury and now we have Darren Wheeler and Ryan Lake going off injured.

All these players are crucial to the team and are either not playing or are struggling on with injuries so I think a little bit of patience and understanding might be appreciated by the players and management.

COYR!!

Totally agree,RR.

Thought  first half we were much the better team and Cirencester had just come to play the long ball game and Slough as a whole was making Cirencester look poor.

Michael Blount put in a great display. Dave Woozley had his best game since the arrival of the new management especially first half,Ben Edwards put in a sterling shift and Darren Wheeler showed what a good player he is.Unfortunately when the latter got injured, the wheels [no pun intended!] started to fall off of our performance.

Think we desperately need an alternative to Ollie Burgess or Jamie McClurg, once they tire,as you can see by most of their 2nd half performances. We really missed Warren Harris today, who brings a creative spark.

I feel we need to add some pace to the side up front, like a Charlie Mpi type player, someone that will create space and make something happen, or if not, go down the route of the archetypal tall, powerful hold up forward to play off him.

Ed Smith was excellent last season with his hold up play but currently is struggling to reproduce it but perhaps that's down to the new style of play under the new managers and because of his injury.

Whatever it is,we are putting in good performances first half but fading badly in the 2nd half through lack of invention, ideas and less commitment. This definitely needs to be addressed.

Slough again, let the opposition off the hook by not being calculated in their attacking process.I see this as our main problem. Not the defence.

I also thought it was an improvement on the Monday performance but still short of what is needed----unlike some others  I felt the commitment level was also higher and that this time they seemed to want to win it , keeping going right to the last seconds.Their keeper made a couple of cracking saves and we threatened more than Cirencester. Darren Wheeler man of the match by a country mile------how is his injury ?The fact that he clearly wanted to stay on is part of the commitment I mentioned

Cant go Tuesday but think we can shade it, dependent on who the managers can field on the night..some suggestions earlier in this thread make sense in that regard

But do we have to defend so high ?Serves no purpose except to win the odd free kick for offside

Not a great game by any means but let's not overreact! We had at least 5 keys players missing, a few playing with knocks, players having to do a job for the team out of position and Dave Woozley’s fourth central defensive partner in 5 matches. I don’t think for one minute the lads weren’t trying but they are finding it difficult out there for obvious reasons. Confidence looks low.

If we had injuries last year the manager was able to go out and get a load of new players to the point where we had a squad of 30 at one stage. The new managers clearly don’t have that luxury so we need to do all we can to get behind the team, not slag them at every opportunity.

Good to see you echoing my sentiments Stuntman.

As you say, there is no doubt IMO the players are really trying hard to put things right but are being continually hampered by injuries and some players playing out of position etc.

I think history tells us that in the FA Cup, if a team at our level exceeds expectations like we did last season, the following season invariably ends in disappointment with an early exit.

I'd love to win the replay on Tuesday but we must keep things in perspective. If we have to field a team that doesn't include all the injured players and as such don't win the game I won't lose any sleep because the game on Saturday against Rugby is far more important.

  • 1 year later...

Cirencester are by their own admission a community club ( that is they usually run a few teams at different levels for the community ) at one stage it was alleged that they don't use money that is generated from their wonderful inside sports arena which is next to the ground. Also their crowds are so poor they cannot be generating much cash that way either ( perhaps that why they got relegated last season ) They use academy players or certainly use to.

How very interesting...

A few things that "jonblack" has just posted on the thread about last night's game struck a chord with me and I was sure I'd heard something similar before........"a community club", "hardly pay any money", "poor attendances", etc......so I took a look back at this thread from last season when Cirencester knocked us out of the FA Cup and sure enough there are some VERY similar points made by our old friend "Hotspur"!

Coincidence???

(It goes without saying of course that the comments are nonsense and that internationals such as Glyn Garner and Nat Jarvis, plus ex pros such as Ian Herring and Gethin Jones, do not play for "hardly any money".)

Cannot be bothered to look them all up but I notice Nat Jarvis has played for most clubs in the west country on a downward spiral. As for you fixation about some one called Hotspur who is he ? I got my info same as you and every other forum person by research. As a long time Slough fan can I ask you and your mate, why you are always right and everyone else wrong. what happened to open debate on here.By all accounts I am told if anyone disagrees with you both they get axed.
