The bookies certainly favour us Cirencester 4/1 Draw 11/4 Rebels 11/20.

So they should we ought to beat them !

Usually their teams made up of local college players and the odd experienced player on the way down with his career.Must keep an eye on Lee Smith who may be to good speed wise for our defence.

Bloody Hell what trash....  Apart from one year when their money ran out, Ciren have never used has beens and college kids on a regular basis in the 16 years I've lived down here.  As back in South Bucks, and other areas where there are groups of clubs close together, players tend to do the rounds. Lots of players down here have appeared for Cleeve, Gloucester, Cinderford, Ciren and Supermarine.  No wonder we have a reputation for living in the past, if this is the "respect" we show other teams!  Forgot, we just have to show up to win, and then when we don't the slagging off starts.

Agreed, I know quite a few of their lads there, and def not college kids, in fact some very experienced players, who have played for Maidenhead, Swindon, Bath, Gloucester and Worcester....

Luckily we will show them the respect they deserve.

We do tend to think that we are still playing in the mighty Conference days at times! Realistically the level we're playing at the moment, it is not that far off from park football, we have to start seeing it for what it is.

That's an interesting statement,Barry,in the fact of how far the players in our squads,in the past and now can reach from our current level.

I think Steve Bateman had this very much in mind with his recruitment policy, many of the players he obtained came from higher teams in the pyramid. To this effect I think he knew that had he gained promotion,he would still of had a majority of players who could have played in the Premier division and then he could of done a gradual adding to.

Obviously, with a lower budget now,the standard of player we recruit is going to be determined by balancing the books to a higher degree than when Steve Bateman was at the helm.

It looks like we've gone from a collection of outstanding individuals who, when push came to shove, only in the big games played well as a team.

To a small nucleus of outstanding players mixed with players playing at the top of their game, who function better as a team[well, that is what we're hoping for!].

Some younger players will get better, some won't.

So if we do reach the dizzy heights of champions,or a play off candidate that is successful,a major overhaul would be needed IMO and obviously,a bigger wage incentive to attract the players necessary to stay in the Premier.

In the central league,it seems newly promoted teams rise easier to the top.You don't see that often in the Premier divisions.

What do others think?

Some interesting Central/South West League clashes yesterday..... Aylesbury and Aylesbury Utd winning against Thatcham and Cinderford, Ashford Town drawing with Bishops Cleeve and Egham losing to Shortwood.

It is going to be a very competitive match today, lets get behind the lads and hopefully progress to the next round.

Cirencester are by their own admission a community club ( that is they usually run a few teams at different levels for the community ) at one stage it was alleged that they don't use money that is generated from their wonderful inside sports arena which is next to the ground. Also their crowds are so poor they cannot be generating much cash that way either ( perhaps that why they got relegated last season ) They use academy players or certainly use to.

Not possible I'm afraid.

That was a poor performance all round a lot of our players looked off the pace/ not interested. Wheeler again was responsible for all our threats and can't see us creating much now he is injured. A worrying game to watch.

We looked good first half at uxbridge and Kettering shouldn't count as they were terrible. Other than that not impressed so far. Hopefully will improve.

2 things.... We were missing warren Harris, Adam foulser, guy Hollis, James McClurg all very good players. It was lack lustre but it doesn't help when fan or fans shouting unhelpful comments! I know it's frustrating but maybe positive cheers would help!!!!
