Midweek Games - Tuesday/Wednesday 27/28 August

Great performance from Stony again today. Crawley Green looked a very well organised side but just kept our focus well and they hit the post and bar about 10 times!

Difference at Stony is we now have a defence. We are now no ones whipping boys.

From what I can make out, as I didn't go, Stoney are a completly different side to two weeks ago about 7 changes in starting 11, they had 3 chances and scored all 3, crawley created double figures but couldn't make the most of it. I said it a couple of days ago, never ever an easy game up at Stoney no matter what team they put out

Holmer Green 1-1 Hertford
Admission £5 inc programme
HC 46
Mini beer festival on in the clubhouse from the bank holiday weekend. £2 a pint

Seeing Hertford win easily 4-0 last week it was back to see them again. This time they were 1-0 down after 15 mins through a slip from the defender, for the rest of the half Hertford were the better team having 2 1 on 1s but twice the Holmer keeper made great saves.

Second half Holmer not as much parked the bus but were fairly organised in stopping Hertford playing. Hertford did hit the bar around the hour mark with an excellent header. After that Hertford pressed and scored an equaliser with 6 mins left.

Decent game and a nice little ground set in a peaceful village.
Good to meet 2 fellow hoppers again Mr Scarborough and Jewish Richard

Barmaid a very sweet 7/10

Another groundhopper's views

I wonder if there's a barmaid's forum somewhere where they give hoppers a rating out of 10?

Anyway I digress - I was at another effing Spartan effing South effing Midlands effing league game

Winslow effing United 6-2 Amersham effing Town

Admission £4. Programme 50p Excellent value for money and up to date following the bank holiday weekend.
Tea: 50p
Att: 37

I remember now why I have so many grounds left to do in this league.

There's only so many times you can put up with a grown man swearing so those 20 miles down the road in Aylesbury could hear that it should have been that teams throw in.

From the 1st minute to the last it was just verbal diorrhea from both sides and benches.

As for the football - game of 2 halves. Winslow kicking down the slight slope should have scored in 5 seconds, but it didn't take long before they did with a wonderful lob from halfway inside the Amersham half. It went from bad to worse for the visitors and by half time they found themselves 6-0 down! Some comical defending, poor decisions by the officials on a couple of the goals and a couple of cracking goals too.

2nd half saw Amersham pull one back straight from kick off and within a minute it looked like they had scored a 2nd, but the lino ruled the cross had gone out and in again before hitting the bar leaving the forward to head into an empty net.

Remainder of the half was very bitty and niggly. How the Winslow no11 stayed on for continually leading with his elbows, god knows, same way the no2 wasnt even spoken to when he called the other lino a effing slow useless female anatomy when he didn't get a throw in.

Amersham did score again deep into injury time from the spot to gain some respect back, but another game in this league marred by the lack of action both by the officials on the night, and league officials in seriously clamping down on clubs in allowing their players to spray tirades of abuse for 90 minutes.

A real shame as the club officials and volunteers themselves were very helpful and the ground itself was immaculately tidy.

Think you are forgetting Colney Heath, also think it is to early to be making predictions when teams are bedding in and been hit with hols and suspensions etc. As previously stated Ampt have a decent squad and are well capable of beating any team.

Also think it is great that Rhodes has been keeping a low profile. Please tell me the numpty is on hols or even better has been banged up for drug smuggling in Peru?

Also keep an eye on Cockfosters FC.

Really? What were they like when they played you? I see they've had a bit of a stumbling start to the league campaign.

I was wondering if they've just been unlucky in the league, or if they got lucky against Hanwell in the cup. Forgot that you could clear this one up for me savage....

They deserved the win in the replay against us.

They have some big players and they can play football and have some decent attacking players.

New Ground 13 for this season - 925 overall.

South Mids Division One at Herns Way, WGC.

Welwyn Garden City (All claret/Sky blue trim) 2-2 Southall (White/Blue),

attendance 72.

Admission a fiver inc programme. Real Ale yes/no, yes, but I didn't partake tonight (diet), Youngs 'Gold' and Abbot Ale I think it was. Filled rolls one fifty each, good sized rolls, tasty ham salad.

Second time in a week I've seen Southall, and I must say they are a breath of fresh air. Mostly an ethnic eleven, quick, skillful, with great attitude and little swearing, unlike their hosts and their oafish bench. Last week I'd seen them turn over early league leaders Sun Postal. Tonight they were a little less impressive, but still very good.

0-1, 1-1. ht. 1-2, 2-2. All good well worked goals. Two good teams in this league who should challenge at the top.

Weak referee, programme said he was only 20, but had played for Spurs/Northampton, presumably as a Junior, and turned to refereeing.

One incident in the second half when a Southall player went down in the box when challenged. Home players thought he'd taken a dive, didn't look like that to me, and they ran over and stood over him in a threatening way, before other players became involved. This incident was incited by WGC, yet the ref ended up booking 2 from Southall and only 1 from WGC, an absolute joke. Ref finally after about the 20th incident of the F word from the bench directed at the officials, spoke to them, about 60 minutes to late IMHO.

Good luck to Southall FC, great little club.
