26th August v Beaconsfield

There are many who believe that Godalming punched well above their weight last season and afterall it's now 2 successive play off defeats in a row for the players that came across and no promotion to reflect  on. Time will certainly tell whether 15% of last years Slough plus 80% Godalming is better than if it had been the other way around. So far thE Godalming boys don't seem able to perform under the weight of expectation or pressure that exists like it not, with playing for Slough.  Not convinced either by the quality of the so called "new boys" ie Couch (Journeyman) and Blount (limited IMO) . I'm sure the management will get it right but I think they will realise they need to abandon their loyalty to the favoured ones and cast their net a touch wider when they make changes.

quote " I have to say that for SOME people it almost seems that they will be pleased if we do not have the season that we are expecting to have", HOPE YOU ARE NOT REFERING TO ME AND MINE. Been supporting Slough Town and non league football before you were born-We are hoping you win the league, but that won't stop us saying what we think of each and every game-you will have noticed that no players names have been mentioned by us as yet.

On perhaps a more helpful note take it from me Cirencester should be beatable but Lee Smith will need attention.

You can always have a chat with me after a game Graham, no problem in discussing this again ... however feel like we are going round in circles a little, with explaining things, and as Gary has said we do answer that question on the recording above....

There is a limit to how interactive we can be, as we are often asked questions (on here, twitter etc), and whilst we try to answer as much as we can, some things we obviously want to keep to ourselves, and sometimes people need to be reasonable with their expectations, as we are more interactive than most.

Whilst not the start we want by any stretch of the imagination, things are different here as we knew, and may take that bit longer for everything to feel like "home" and for all the lads to feel comfortable.... Myself personally I found the first game against Northwood very different, and need to get my routine set for home games also.

I have to say that for SOME people it almost seems that they will be pleased if we do not have the season that we are expecting to have (and I do only mean some), the comments of we were better last season etc are also very frustrating and not that helpful (as whatever side you had last year, they are not the team you have this year), and in reality the team was not better.... as proved over 42 games (not 4 games)

Not saying that some of the individual players you had last year were not better than what we have now however, but as has been mentioned before there are reasons why they are not here.

I am sure that if you spoke to a lot of the managers and players that we came up against  last season, they would have backed up we were a decent side, however at the same time the lads we have brought over do have to deliver (plus the ones that have been brought in and stayed), but we are 4 games in, and most are settling into a new club and at present we have only had one game where we have had close to a full squad to choose from (and that was Kettering, but still without our skipper)

If we are still having these conversations in November then obviously something has not worked out how we expect (and we would be proactive in changing that anyway), but GIVE THE LADS A CHANCE and get behind them, and I am not just talking one or two games.

Sunday is going to be very tough believe me, and we do need your support whoever is in the starting eleven.

Neil: believe me everyone I have spoken to is 100% behind what yourself and Jon are trying to achieve. There will always

be a few forum moaners (and believe me we have had to put up with them well before this season). A few of our so-called

fans will never be happy until we are back in the Conference, but in reality that is a long way off and highly unlikely to happen in the foreseeable future. You will find that when the team is winning, the amount of posts is less. We (the true

supporters) are positive people and appreciate what yourselves and the club are trying to do. COYR.

Question: If you take Ed Smith's 33 goals away from last seasons squad that finished below a play-off place where would we have finished?  Was last season's squad really that good?

This is the SLOUGH TOWN  squad now, give the lads time and lets get behind them...

Hi Jon & Neil,

I hope you guys are not getting too despondent about the job in hand.

I can understand that you may be taking some of the criticism personally but there is no need to.

Like most fans up and down the country we all like to think we can do the job better than the management. Quite frankly if any of us were that good WE would be the managers.

I am as disappointed as any rebels fan with our start but football fans are eternally optimistic and even before a ball was kicked I fully expected us to have 12 points after 4 games.

I think you should remember that a lot of Rebels fans do not post on this forum so it is not always a true reflection of the issues discussed.

I find your management style very refreshing but you may find it is a problem sometimes when you are willing to discuss virtually everything so openly.

I can still see more positives than negatives and I'm already looking forward to Sunday's game.

COYR.

I don't always agree with you,Windsor Rebel, but you are certainly right in this instance. We fans have to be patient. All new teams experience teething problems and have to bond with their new club and new team mates.

Can't agree that I won't moan on here when we lose, though! ha ha!

I do,however, believe that we are not that far off from being a side that can get us promoted but that it will take time and probably, money to find the right blend that can achieve it.

It's often inexplicable why one player can be brilliant one season and then go off the boil the next.

Can a manager/managers be blamed for this.Of course not.Different if they won't drop the player/s.

What I don't understand is that we gave Steve Bateman 4 and half seasons to get it right and yet, some of us aren't willing to give these new guys in charge,as many as 12 games or less!

Are they 'nuts'?!

I believe Neil and Jon will have to 'separate the wheat from the chaff' if things don't run to plan and maybe new players will be needed but let's give the ones we have got a chace to prove their mettle before we go overboard about our slow start to the season.

Whole heartedly agree with PJR, Windsor Rebel and 3spirit.

Everyone was disappointed on Monday - managers, players and supporters alike. This has been expressed across various platforms. But we started in similar fashion last season and missed out by a point on the play offs, so all is far from lost.

The difference between now and when Hotspur were a lad is that now when you pull on the shirt you run the risk of constant scrutiny and debate on places like here rather than just for 90 minutes on a match day.

I think it's great to hear from Bakes and Unders but we don't want to alienate them on here. The vast majority back them 100%.

Let's try and get behind the boys on Sunday and avoid the moaning and groaning if a pass goes astray or a chance is missed.

Slough Kit Man.....I saw Michael Blount wipe out Sean Fraser at Chertsey last season and hand us the game and it was coming for the previous 80 minutes....Carthorse was a term used in my days !!

Early days I know....lets hope for the required improvement....PS Not a fan of the purple kit at all !

Just because a player has one awful game doesn't mean he's a bad player. So far Michael Blount has only appeared in one pre-season game and in that,he played well.

As for Aaron Couch,it wasn't long ago that scouts from league clubs were looking at him.He does seem to have lost his way a bit but I think he is a good acquisition for Slough.

Admittedly,he had a stinker against Beaconsfield by having far too many shots, which were way off target rather than play a simple pass, which was rather greedy of him especially when there were goal scoring opportunities for players near to him at the time but it was obvious to me,that he wanted a glory goal to impress the supporters and managers on his home debut.

He won't be the first or the last to try this.

From his point of view,he knows that he has to play very well to oust either Warren Harris or Darren Wheeler from the team, being that they play in the positions he plays most.

To me,I thought he was entitled to have a crack at goal on occasion but he will need to vary his play to be a success in this current team.

From what Bakes and Unders have said on this forum,at the fans forum and by what ex-players have said in the press, the budget appears to be a lot less than what Steve Bateman had last season. So if that is the case,I don't think that the fringe players brought in,are bad quality at all.

I do agree with you, though,Rebel Voyeur, that the Chairman may have to dig in his pockets a bit more,if results don't pick up.

The two positions I believe need strengthening are central midfield and up front but that is only my opinion.

Agree on Blount, you cannot judge him on that tackle when he may have just been having a bad game. Had you only seen him play on the opening day of this season at Walton you would have seen a defender scoring from the half way line......Basically, give the guy a chance as I'm sure even Sean himself will do.

In terms of strengthening our team at this early stage, I completely disagree......If we are having this conversation in October then fair enough but our team is still a 'work in progress' in terms of getting the balance of current players right and to go and change that now would not be a good idea.

Lets all get behind the lads, we know they are good players and lets get a run going........

It is quite interesting actually to look at the pattern of Godalming results last season....there would be four/five games where points would be dropped (as we are seeing now), but this would then be followed by 10 wins on the bounce. I think we will be fine.....COYR

The squad size is currently 17.The management said they will carry a squad of 18.So that leaves room for one.A striker needed.

You are right we do need to settle and give the squad time but with George Short's injury,I think an experienced centre midfielder would be an asset to lighten the load on McClurg and Edwards.Even if it was a loan signing.

To thank Neil for his post yesterday .

I really dont believe there are many fans who would not want you to succeed this season......we are fed up with this league and some of the grounds we have to visit............  you know from our exchanges both on here and personally that I feel this as much as anyone, probably more after so many years as a supporter.

We do express disappointments when things go wrong especially when it seems to us (maybe wrongly) that they go wrong through lack of endeavour compared to the opposition........I think we would say the same if the joint managers were Sir Alex and Jose !

I am sure you will get it right and gradually reduce some of the misgivings and anxieties that we all hear at half time and full time as we  discuss the game----we all hope this is soon as the success we cherish will run away if there is not an improvement in results shortly.

Good luck for saturday......................but even more for the next 38 league games !

I wouldn't if it was Jose Graham !!

Seriously though no player goes out deliberately not to play well, we all have our off days. Maybe just think a bit before you post or shout out at a game, and then think how would you feel if it was your son out there. Constructive criticism is good but too much negativity never helps especially after so few games.

It will take the players time to settle in and we need to help them. It's strange for me on match days when the old faces dont come in to say hello or words to that effect but in time I'm sure the new Slough players will, just like I hope in time to get Jon and Neil round the right way !!

As for not liking the purple shirt, I'm glad to say you are in the minority. A lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes regarding these sort of things  and as I have always said you cant please everyone and you dont have to buy one BUT buying one does help your club.

Loved the posts by Pete, Martin and wait for it even 3 Spirits, though trust me he is right, he will always moan.

Good luck for Sunday and can every one please cross all fingers that I will have the home shirts to sell.

I really like the away shirt. And as sue knows I'm quite happy to voice negative opinions on the kit.

Yes our performances haven't been greT this season and (apart from Kettering who were woeful) we haven't been able to string two decent halves of football together. But I do feel they will come good and I feel for the managers who have to say the players let them down (which must be upsetting for them as the trusted them enough to bring them over from godalming. Hopefully the players will live up to the managers expectations and move forward rapidly.
