26th August v Beaconsfield

i think i have spotted what was missing in the second half with our side today it was there was no team work. just long balls to our midget forwards amongst the giant opposition backs, i have said it time and time again short one touch passes with players moving into positions to receive the ball keeping long balls to an absolute minimum, when the opposition have the ball keep tight to them give them no thinking time on the ball, and when shooting lay over the ball then perhaps we won't sky the ball to often, lots of work to do  so lets get on with it and stop faffing about.

I think the George Short injury was the catalyst for Slough to go off the boil, despite what Hotspur says. Before this happened Slough had taken control of the game and were deservedly winning 1-0.First half I could only see one winner and it wasn't Sycob.

Our problem came from the off in the second half.

Disappointed that our more experienced players couldn't rally the team spirit and I do agree with Lawnrebel [who!? lol] that the management needed to be vocal, in that, oh so dire second 45.

The only player that I thought deserved credit in the second half was Warren Harris and he was a sub, which said it all ! Although Jake Somerville played well for the full 90 despite conceding 3, if that makes sense! :-].  .

Far too early to make judgements on this assembled squad,as we all need to give these players time to bond and to get the passion and pride in playing for Slough and wearing the shirt.

No one likes losing especially in local derbies but in today's game, can't help but feel that Slough lost the game and beat themselves rather than Beaconsfield taking all the credit..

That said their right back had energy to burn and had a stormer, their number 10[even though he wore banana skins on his feet!] stuck to his task and played Lake and Woozley like mugs for one of their goals.

Poulton,Yeboah,Romeo and Sycob's No 5 also showed some backbone and kept their side together, while ours disintegrated!

Gary Meakin and his assistant also got their tactics spot on in that 2nd period and used their subs to good effect. So we will have to write this game off as a bad day at the office,

Thanks 3spirit, nice to see some of the Beaconsfield players getting credit where credits due for their hard working performance, the result was tremendous really considering it was only the fourth time the new manager had been in charge of the team and seen them play, with so many new players it was encouraging !

Ironically,Older Ram,heard one of your players talking to someone before the game and said there was still some unrest among your squad and that a few may still leave. In which case,it is an even better result!

Another irony is that if you had still had James Pritchard,Jim Meivin and their assembled squad,we may have seen a cracker of a game, rather than the two lack lustre sides that took to the field today.

Anyway well done.Sycob won fair and square. Have to hope for revenge at our 'away' game with you!

Hugely disappointed with our 2nd half performance yesterday. Thought we started well going forward and were causing them problems but at the same time gifted them two great opportunities by failing to deal with long balls over the top. Once our new central defensive pairing settled though I thought we were much the better side in the 1st half, played some good football and were good value for our half time lead. The issues in the 2nd half came from our defending. All 3 goals were completely preventable and we absolutely shot ourselves in the foot. The most disappointing aspect was how we reacted to those goals going in (or rather how we didn't) and how it affected our performance. After having such a positive day on Saturday we really didn't see that coming. We clearly still have work to do and no-one knows that more than Bakes and I.

I am not going to answer every question on here about team selection, substitutions, etc as I will be here all day but what I will say is that the 3 lads who came off the bench had all previously had injuries and 2 starts in 3 days was too much for them. Of the lads who came off obviously no need to explain about George and with the others Ollie had a dead leg from the 1st half that he was struggling to run with and Johnnie had told us at half time that he was struggling for fitness (had a heavy cold) and probably only had another 10/15 mins in him. And when you have a 30+ goals a season striker in Eddie on the bench it's a no brainer to make that change.

Have seen a few comments about the way myself and Neil were in the 2nd half and the fact that we weren't particularly vocal. In my opinion you sometimes need to trust you players to put things right, especially when you have 6 or 7 experienced players on the pitch, and by shouting from the sidelines this doesn't always help matters and we felt after the Northwood game we had been TOO vocal when things had been going wrong so maybe went the other way yesterday. Was that trust repaid yesterday and did our senior players take responsibility? No. Did we make that point in the changing room after the game? Yes.

No-one is more disappointed by our start than Bakes and I. We live and breathe our football and it means everything to us to be successful at Slough. We will probably speak 20 times on the phone this week to discuss how we prepare the side for the weekend, what the side and tactics should be having studied reports on Cirencester, and whether we need to tweak the squad, etc. We have 100% belief in ourselves to get it right. In the last 2 seasons we've taken our team to the play-offs twice, reached the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup and won the Surrey Senior Cup. We appreciate we are at a different club now and previous records count for nothing but have faith in us that we do know what we are doing and will make whatever changes are necessary to get the team playing the way they need to in order to climb the league and challenge for promotion.

We have no issue with the comments and the criticism on this forum from supporters as this is the place for you to put your views across. We don't agree with everything that is said but we know that almost everyone who comments only does so out of frustration and because they want Slough to do well and we look forward to the day (hopefully in the very near future) when the comments are positive because the performances have improved and we are climbing the league.

A very good post Jon.

Having had time to digest yesterday I agree that it was our defending that cost is the game. I do wonder how much short affected it though as we seemed to lose the midfield battle after he went off and IMO was having his best game for us and perhaps protecting that back line a bit more in the first half.

Mentions for yesterday go to dyer who worked his socks off. Fraser who was once again solid and Somers who did well despite the goals, a great save made at 3-1 to prevent 4.

Warren Harris also continued to impress me and coming off the bench made a real difference to try and get behind the back line.

Thought dyer impressed as well and ironically George short was halfway through his best game for us. I felt we really missed wheeler and foulser yesterday. And although he came on late the game was over by the time warren appeared (another player I rate highly)

Side note very surprised Kyle Anthony is clubless, I don't know what circumstance led to his leaving but with a midfielder out for 6 weeks I would have thought he would be well worth an approach.

There is always going to be unrest at smaller clubs like ours, most players are settled, but  because players think they can get more money at the bigger clubs their heads are turned. Slough on the other hand don't seem to have that problem, they struggle to get rid of their players, as their players are on good money and don't want to leave, which makes them too comfortable and complacent. Whenever we have beaten Slough in the last few years, there is always an excuse from Slough fans, our team is never given credit for over performing against Slough teams which are always under achieving year in year out. As you put it our lack lustre team was better than your lack lustre team again, just like last season and the season before, perhaps your lack lustre team may finish above ours for a change this season, we'll see !

Thinking about it, i wonder why the Slough board haven't looked nearer to home when looking for new players, instead of importing the Godalming team they might have been better signing some of the Beaconsfield players who have performed well and outplayed Slough each time we have met over the last few years, just a thought !

From the 3 games I have seen Slough play this season they seem to flatter to deceive and do not have any end product going forward. They are also one paced at the back and will continually get caught out this season when they come up against pace, midfield is very average. It looked to me yesterday that they obviously missed Wheeler "who will get lots of injuries due to being such a light weight" and Ed Smith "why was he on the bench"

There definately needs to be some better player additions to this group of players as at present it is nowhere near as good as last seasons team who had much more naturally gifted footballers

Always best to sleep on it and give your views the next day as you do reflect on the game differently. I as every other fans, player and management yesterday was bitterly disapointed not only with the performance and result but the lack of comeback after letting in each goal. We did create enough to get at least a draw but when Aaron missed that great opportunity (sorry Aaron!) to make 2-3 I think we all knew then it wasn't going to be our day. The best way to move on is obviously to perform alot better in the next game and hopefully win and try and get into an unbeaten run of games. Yes it's only 4 games in and I for one isn't panicking at all but being 8 points off top already does make it an uphill task, meaning not only do we need to go on an unbeaten run but also when we play Rugby Town, Barton Rovers soon we really need to beat them. But let's keep the faith, stay positive as I think we can see the potential in this team to do well.

John Underwood has already explained why Ed Smith was on the bench.

On the surface it looked like Kyle Anthony and Co left SYCOB in the preverbial dog poo a few days before the season started after James Pritchard left.

Wheeler missed 4 games total last year, and 1 the year before.

I don't think size and weight has anything to do with being injury prone.

So you think Guy Hollis and Adam Foulser are one paced?

Kyle Anthony and Ryan O'Toole went to Harefied who, in league stature, are a smaller club that SYCOB.

Although,I'm not keen on players who leave their club's in lurch,I do tthink Dom DeMarcus has a valid point,in that Kyle Anthony would be a good acquisition,if he is clubless.

I personally think he is a better defender than midfielder but he is at the right age for our team and is only going to get better. He is mobile around the field of play, can play defensive or attacking and as we have a spare position in the squad to fill,he would be a useful addition to our squad.
