24th August - Kettering Town (a)

Have to say thought Ben Edwards was excellent yesterday, he breaks so much of the game up, and allows us to win the ball back, and was good to see him in amongst the goals.....

Thought it was a good performance, however I think throughout we were probably better at Uxbridge, but we just had the threat of 2 forwards, which we had missed from the first 2 games, and they could not deal with us going forward, and if for a couple of better decisions we could have had 6 or 7.

If anyone had offered us that result at the start of the game we would have bitten their hands off, so all in all a good day.

There was a real feel good factor yesterday, which started on the coach going to Kettering, and I feel that the squad is beginning to gel, and now we have got that first win out the way, hopefully we can put a winning run together, however we know tomorrow will be very tough.

Can only agree really, a very good performance against a team that seems to have real issues at the moment.  Thought the early goal was crucial as Kettering created quite a bit for the first 50-60 minutes but then they lost their shape and we took advantage with the third goal.  I was interested to see how we reacted to them bringing it back to 2-1, and was a little concerned we may crack under the pressure but the lads handled it very well and pushed on to punish some very poor defending and goalkeeping.

At this rate Wes Harrison is going to find it difficult to get into the team as Sean Fraser is playing as well as he was playing this time last year, one of our best finds of recent years.  I did think that Warren Harris went a bit quiet second half, but otherwise had a good game, and Wheeler did well to be involved with most of our goals.  Things certainly came together nicely yesterday, but the key thing is keeping that going with an inevitable change in the starting eleven with a game just 2 days later.  Should certainly be a good local derby game.

Seems Kettering are in turmoil already. From what is being said on their forum and what I heard in the bar yesterday and the fact that the deeneys are there it seems they have a healthy budget for this league.

Apparently the players brought in are on good wages and managers head is being called for.

So despite what has been said about youngsters and no money it seems our win yesterday could prove to be even better if they do turn it around

While it was worth the journey to see us win and a win is a win regardless, you have to admit Neil the nephew was spot on in so much as they were a poor side as he said ( especially in defence ) they were.So we wonder where you got that information that told you they were a good strong side lol !

Hotspur look at Kettering forum. Money isn't an issue and players on paper should be good apparently

I never mentioned money or players for that matter-I was just relaying what one of their diehard fans ( my nephew )told me in the week-but Neil tried to refute it for what ever reason and we were only being helpful by putting them in the picture.

Enjoyed the day out at Kettering/Burton Latimer yesterday, despite getting dreched in the first half. Great to see

the lads getting their first win of the season. Thought Wheeler was again impressive and Edwards also stood out for me.

Feel sorry for Kettering, great bunch of supporters, and the ground was OK as well. Hope they pull away from

the bottom of the league, they deserve better. Bring on SYCOB and Older Ram.

Hotspur the troll is just dangling his worm looking for a bite as usual - ignore him he's not worth it.

Funny how when I offer some proven facts ( like yesterday ) you come out with some adverse comment-does it irk you that you seem to know very little about non league footie-we reckon it must do.

Hotspur surely you expect our managers to come out publicly and say an opposition are terrible, that's just not professional and if a manager had said that about Slough I would expect those comments to fuel any prematch team talk

I don't expect any manager to berate the opposition, that would be foolish, maybe he should have not commented at all.

To be fair I thought they were a team you could get at (which was proved right), however they caused us a few problems early on, and the info came from people who saw them pre season, and had been impressed with them, and with good results that could be substantiated, however as we have all said pre season results do not mean a great deal, but as someone said I am hardly going to come on here and say that they are a side is poor or anything to that effect..

At the end of the day it was a professional win, with 5 goals away from home.

Pretty good day.

Very professional performance IMHO, agree ketterings fans were too lads and deserve better. Was interesting to hear their opinions on the two ex rebels, not complimentary at all(which tbf surprised me as I though Dave was decent on the pitch last season and ash looked good when he came in)

Lets also remember their goal only came from a ref howler where they broke after a foul on one of ours.

You're obviously happy that you were right, I'm happy that we came away with three points.... happy days all round, but history now, let's move on to Beaconsfield, what's your opinion of them??

I have not seen them play this year so have no opinion-lets hope we beat them.
