Gareth J
Where to start with this one...... OK the last minute penalty awarded to Town and then overturned by the linesman feels like a kick in the teeth. I thought overall the ref didn't have a bad game. Not great, and certainly card happy....but we've had worse and no doubt will again. Leaving the ground tonight there were quite a few angry Town supporters, but thinking about it on the way home and calming down there's alot to take from this game. We played much better in the first half that we have for a while ( although we needed to play from the off - conceding in 35 seconds!). We battled back into the game well and played some decent football. Sure, in my opinion, they were the better side - they had far more and better chances, but we were much improved. Sadly the second half we started really slowly. It took 15 minutes to get out of our own half - and that was from the kick off following their second goal. When we played football we competed. Sadly there were far too many lumps into space in the second half - we have to learn! Only one long throw beat the first man, but we kept trying. Overall, we has to chance to steal it, but the ref ruled it out. But had I been a Maidstone supporter and we'd got that penalty and scored it, I would have been gutted. I think on the balance of the game the score was fair (it pains me to say). I think we can take a huge amount of positives from this game. Some much better individual performances. I thought we had more confidence. We have to take these forward to Saturday. I'm off to get my jabs boosted for Canvey!
Gareth J
Forgot to mention Town's goal was scored by Arthur Lee. A well taken goal from a Dave Collis freekick. Very much not a typical centre half's goal.
Ryan.c
Overall a far better performance. After getting over the shock of conceding in under a minute, we got back in it and looked the better side in the first half. End to end stuff in an entertaining half. First 15 of second half they battered us and the goal was inevitable. We could have done with taking the pressure off with better ball retention which we failed to do. Got back in it after that and the end of the game was choas. Nailed on handball in area turned down. Robinson's header over line by all accounts. Then the penalty which never was. Farcical. Overall far more encouraging signs. We looked like a team but we need to take that performance into Saturdays 'scum derby' straight from the off. palace12
Much better performance but have to concentrate from the off and get organised a little earlier.
jl
We've played well in parts in all of the games so far - We need to play well for the whole game if we want our results to improve. I thought the surface played pretty well and it was an entertaining game. I thought I was at Wembley with the prices they were charging for food and drink. £1.90 for a small coke and £4 for a cheeseburger. No wonder it was so easy to get served!! I'll reserve judgement until we've played ten but I'll repeat my oft said phrase "Winning is hard and losing is easy". Two tough Derbies coming up and we need to win at least one of them! COYB! Rich.m
I was pleased with the way we reacted going a goal down, it would of been easy to crumble under pressure but the lads dug deep and pulled themselves into the game. Another 90 minutes for the squad, which looks to be settling down a bit now, still work to be done! I advise not to watch the maidstone highlights, as if the official had given sappleton offside, it makes the decision even worse as he doesnt touch the ball until after robinson was bought down! On to the weekend, 6 points from the derbies would be lovely!
