Non League Day

The match against Leiston at home on Sept 7th falls on Non League Day - it's unfortunate that a team that has to travel such a long distance is scheduled as it makes it harder for us to involve their fans in the promotion of it.  There is a process that will be followed in order that we all sing from the same hymn sheet (a cliche - sorry Martin Black) but, if whoever does these things would kindly pin this subject until the day, we would be obliged.   Please can we have your sensible, short and sweet, suggestions over the next few days as to what you think that we can do and we will look at them and present an agenda discussion and for marketing purposes etc.  Sticks of rock will not happen unless someone wants to donate the several hundred pounds to cover the cost.  In the meantime the renovation of the ground will continue so that it is as pleasant an experience as possible to come here.  I think that I can say without contradiction that Mark Sandwell's Seaside Cut Out Board is starting to have a good impact on our image with the visiting fans and it has been mentioned on several of their forums so please try to get a shot of you and yours using it posted to the forum item (I'd like that pinned as well please Mr Moderator)

Thanks all.

I think what is probably worth considering is some activity of some sort in Margate/Cliftonville/Westgate/Birchington both Friday night and the saturday morning, even if its just reminding people of Margate FC and live football, perhaps some free vouchers for food or drink. I don't just mean someone handing out fliers it needs a proper stage with Margate FC CG playing, and maybe some of our more lovely ladies in football kits (yeah I know it sounds sexist) but we need to try and get feet through the gate.

Following on from Mark's suggestion, is it worth doing targeted marketing of the game to different groups? I.e. try and promote directly through schools, youth facilities and then to more adult audiences? I think promotion of the day/game needs to occur in the 10 days/week before the game to get momentum, probably through press coverage, posters and then some kind of activity in the 24 hours before kick-off. Could the town team be a way to get closer to the community?

More generally topics to look at:

- The admission price - discounts for families

- Discounts for future games for those who attend the Leiston game. Kingstonian is the week after in a cup game, so could return custom be sought by offering an incentive to those who present a ticket from the 7th at the turnstile on the 14th?

- Candy floss available at the mobile ktichen? Could it work economically?

- An offer for kids (registered on site?) to take a penalty on the pitch

- A "pro" manning the photo board with a camera

- A "pro" on hand with a camera to snap the day in the general. Perhaps Don if he'd give up his time, if not anyone else handy with a stills camera?

- I'd happily film what I can if we can make it work

- Hartsdown Hour for the adults, but extended until the final whistle?

- Raffle prizes for kids and adults

- Follow-up activity in Thanet Gazette/NLP - make sure Laura/Thomas are part of the whole day, and use photos and film to show off the hospitality of the club

I play for a football team up in Medway, & a lot of the lads go to watch Gillingham, who happen to be away September 7th. Can mention Margate / Non League Day to them, if that helps? :)

Also, my manager happens to be an Ebbsfleet fan who really enjoyed his time up here when we played them in the KSC last season, so sure he won't mind spreading the word if needed.

All good stuff - keep it coming - I hope to talk with Cliff about it quite soon.   Crossbar challenge would be an interesting thing to involve the actual players in - or chortle chortle the oofficials. Seem to remember Liverpool used to do that before games in the days of Fowler and Macthingybob !

I know a guy with a candyfloss machine - will get a quote. Crossbar challenge for half time? or penalty shootout for the kids against the reserve keeper?

I've been thinking about this for a while and looking around in the shops.  The candyfloss you see about the town is in plastic tubs, made by someone in Whitstable, which smacks a bit of commercialism - can you ask if your guy do it in plastic wrap/bags with blue ties ?   Might make it look a bit more seaside - can see a long term item here if we can get the presentation right

A season ticket holder at Fulham has informed me he gets into Tooting games for a £5. Seems if you are a season ticket holder at another club and show your ticket Tooting have a special price to encourage other teams supporters.

I've heard of this before and like the idea, but who do The Gate target such a promo at? Tooting can target a London club because of its location, but as a club as far east as it gets, who to target? Is there a pool of season ticket holders nearby to target?
