Newbury 1-4 Windsor

Not as straightforward as it sounds.

Windsor started off completely in control and looked a class above Newbury. Attack after attack with little coming back at us in the 1st half. But it was only a penalty that was converted so we went in just 1-0 up, when our dominance merited a healthier lead.

We then went 2-0 up early on in the 2nd half and that should really have been "it". But maybe lack of experience showed because we went off the boil and allowed Newbury to get up a head of steam for half an hour and we looked 2nd best. They scored one after some fannying around at the back, (FFS, get rid!!!) and it wouldn't have been a big surprise if they'd drawn level.

Then we got the 3rd and a 2nd penalty to make it 4-1 and re-established our superiority.

Fair play Newbury for coming out in the 2nd half and putting us under the cosh but we need to be more professional / clinical / focused for 90 when clearly the better team as we were here.

Good day out. Pitch was ok but the grass a bit long. Biggest stand I've seen on my travels at Step 5 / 6 - HUGE. Apparently a relic from Newbury Racecourse.

Newbury players were not happy with the ref at the final whistle (the usual "that was embarrassing" and "worst ref ever" being muttered as he walked off), and I have to say I did feel Windsor had the better of his decisions.

Apart from not playing any advantage whatsoever, I thought the referee kept a very good grip on the game. Very impressed with the stand as well the number of good quality pubs in the town. A very enjoyable day and evening out ;-)

Whyteleafe 3-3 Epsom & Ewell

Mixed day for Campbell as the Salts recover a from poor start to claim replay

Anyone with a nervous disposition would have been well-advised to keep away from Church Road on Saturday as an extremely tense and exciting Cup tie ensured six goals and many missed chances.

At the centre of the action was Kieran Campbell, who conceded a penalty with a wild lunge in the first half but redeemed himself with a fantastic second half performance as the Salts managed to claw back a 3-1 half time deficit.

Despite missing Nathan Ayling, Alex McKay, Russell Hartt and Alex McGregor, George Murphy came in alongside Anthony Panayi and the two youngsters found things difficult to start with but improved as the game went on.

Going down the slope at the picturesque Church Road ground that is surely one of the most pleasant in Surrey, the hosts pressed us back and were deservedly ahead in the 18th minute when Grant headed in unchallenged at the near post from a corner.

The 'Leafe nearly made it two-nil but a good chance was missed, and you felt that maybe it was going to be our day when the ball fell to Antony Myers out on the left and he hit a curling dipping volley with the outside of his foot into the far corner in the 32nd minute.

Unfortunately things took a turn for the worse after Campbell clattered into a Whyteleafe striker way out wide but just inside the box. In fact the only surprise was that he didn't receive a card for the challenge. He had no chance with Thompson's penalty in the 37th minute, and no more than sixty seconds later Williams had doubled the advantage after a good run and shot.

The game looked up at that point. However, whether it was tactical or injury related I don't know, but the half time change worked a treat as Ben Hayward was replaced by an extra striker, Reece Jackson. This gave us more targets in the area and as soon as the 51st minute we were back in the game when Hough rode a couple of half-challenges to slot the ball past the home keeper.

Myers was through minutes later but this time blazed over. However, in the 62nd minute he had another opportunity from a similar position. He kept his shot down this time and although it was blocked across goal, there was Jackson to control and fire home to bring the scores level.

As both sides realised this game was up for grabs things started to get very stretched with chances at both ends. Hough's goalbound lob was not quite high enough to beat the keeper, while a home player was just too high with a shot after Campbell had come out well to narrow his angle. A 78th minute volley was parried away by Campbell as the home side finished slightly  the stronger and an effort that bounced off the top of our crossbar before being cleared ensured that this exciting encounter will now be extended by at least 90 minutes this Wednesday at High Road.

Good to see the CCL fairing so well, especially after reading some people's opinions that this is the weakest our league has been for a few years. I'd say it was just a bit more evenly matched and competitive this season. Still lots of good teams about.

Why should I,the Clubs pay fees to the CCL to look after their best Interests.Which they currently are not doing ,Publicity is key in this day and age, look at the Sussex, and SCEFL,for how things should be done,Clubs should ask for a refund.Maybe the CCL should spend some of the money they get,in paying someone to update their Site, rather than expecting things for nothing.

Smudge, there are currently technical issues that are preventing the site being used to its full potential.  I am currently working with the web hosting company to get this resolved,  This has been a long work in progress to try and give a better looking a more feature rich website and move the league forward but, like most things in life, even the best thought through plans don't always go right.

Publicity my arse.

You can have national publicity and it makes not the blindest bit of difference to bums on seats. Never has.

Look at all the small clubs that go on FA Cup runs - get thousands through the gate for the big game - possibly live on national tele. Next league game the crowds go back to normal. Always have, always will.

Farnborough are constantly in the news. They should be getting 3000 people a game with all the publicity they've had over the last 20 years.

So with a record number of CCL Teams winning in the F.A. Cup,this should not be publicised.Farnborough get all their publicity, not for what they do on the pitch, but for what they do not do off it.Likewise my local Premier side Crystal Palace, who you think would of learnt from previous mistakes,in how to run their affairs,Administration twice, alas egos get in the way,and cloud their vision. They have signed, second rate/unproven players,at great cost, with lengthy contracts no doubt, that will send the Club the same way again. The shame at CCL Level is Clubs,do not promote themselves to the younger generation,by trying to get them involved,in any way possible.Mascots, ball boys,H/T Penalty shoot outs,Free Entry.Only 2 Clubs try in my opinion,Windsor,Camberley, the rest never ever bother.
