Billericay 0 East Furrock 1

Recommended Posts

Well I remember there was a goal, not that the keeper saw much of it and then I remember the final whistle...

The tannoy was too loud still but the programmes are an improvement on last season.

As for the result I'd say its too early in the season to start worrying.  It'd take 7-8 games to really give you an idea of how a team is doing.  East Thurrock are a good side and done well during the last few seasons.  The front two looked lively and worked hard, some of the passing in midfield was wayward but, as I said, it's a work in progress.

With so many changes to the squad they're not going to settle too quickly.

Roll on Saturday!

What I would add is thank goodness we've got a decent keeper between the sticks....or it could have been a much worse result.

I agree it will take time for things to come together, but there are really worrying signs at the back.....

Based on their start to their season Thamesmead will make for interesting test of where we are.

You can tell we're back in the Ryman! A dreadful performance. Only Young came out of that with any credit. It's a new side and we've a number of injuries but that doesn't excuse the lack of composure and ability to pass the ball to each other. East Thurrock didn't look much better but they deserved the win.

Need a performance and result on Saturday against a side that's conceeded 9 goals in 2 games. Hopefully a few injuries may have cleared up.

I thought it was a pretty even game. Their goal was very soft from our point if view.

Javlon Campbell looked very lively but I thought a couple of our senior players didn't have great games. Our best moments against Harrow came when we passed it around so I was disappointed to see we had reverted to long throws and hoofs down the channels.

Two games in and Saturday is already looking like a big game. COYB!

Strange, I got told that the tannoy wasn't loud enough by some... And defended that one...Now I find...Ahhhhh well, all in a season's fun eh?

Funny old World... But it's nice to get people's opinion. I shall go through the season with the remit you can please some but can't please all of 'em.

Nice to read that the new programme has a positive (you really can't win on all points lol)

Two games in and I could see the gallows being built in some people's minds all ready... okay, maybe not being built but plans being drawn up... which is a shame. It's always difficult for a team recently relegated that has gone through (or going through) a rebuilt and consolidation. Considering that all but two players remain from last season (not counting the absent Luke, who is abscent due to forces beyond our and his control), this team has only played two games in anger and are in the process of gelling. Anyone who witnessed our game against Harrow could see that the first half performance was one that was encouraging as the players generally tried to play through and around and not always over...nice passing football. And there were glimmers of that last night... That we eventually played over (or tried) was due to the fact we had two pacey forwards on and we were trying (especially in the last 15) to snatch an equaliser quickly by plaing to our pace up front.

Like all games, goals are scored from mistakes. One mistake, one goal. Was the wall set right? Should the keeper have the near post covered or should the wall have stopped it. That the player bent the ball quite sweetly round the wall would suggest that there was a certain amount of skill by tthe East thurrock player to consider as well. And we had our fair share of chances and either didn't take 'em or luck didn't smile on us. We'll have a lot of this in the season but it usually even itself out.

On reflection, I agree with JL's thoughts during the game that the game was fairly even and that one goal, mistake or otherwise was all that seperated us. Saturday, hopefully will be a different prospect and the team would've taken the past 180 minutes to reflect and learn and therefore be more of a unit...

Opinions... Different....Like people... Brings colour and variety to life.

We seemed to play the long ball quite a lot of the time which was very frustrating, I agree with the posts mentioning that the passing game is the best way - the few times we managed to string a few passes together, we seemed to get further in attack than we did when playing the long ball. It was also frustrating seeing Collis take the long throw in, every single time it wasn't clearing the first defender so I don't know why we persisted with that route.

Unfortunately their goal was very soft and I am unsure how good a view the keeper had, but second half he pulled off a few good saves to stop ETU from extending their lead.

Still, it's a new team, players need to continue to get fit and jel with eachother, we also have a few players out at the moment so I am hopeful after the next few games we will see improvements.

new team or not, the basics we managed to get wrong were unbelievable, the amount of balls wasted from midfield were unbelievable. You could tell the strikers were feeding of scraps all game, so i can't criticise them. But when it gets fired straight to their heads all they can do is try to head the ball on, it wasn't working. Our best spell was when we played it along the ground, hopefully it was just a bad day at the office all right
