Spartan League 2013/2014

Recommended Posts

I am currently watching Oxhey Jets vs Holmer Green and on this show I will answer my own post of relegation. Holmer Green are very average and actually thought tonight would be a good time to watch Oxhey Jets after last season and where they finished in the league. On this show I don't know how they finished third. An old school ground with netting behind the goals to stop the balls going into houses and fields. As my first visit here it will be remembered as a goal feat at this rate. Six goals so far and counting. I watched Berkhamstead on Saturday and they don't look the greatest side so no idea on a winner but a few relegation contenders. Any more opinions for winning the league? Now I must decide where I goto watch on Saturday after all it looks like the league is full of goals.

Oxhey Jets have lost the nucleus of last season's squad and if its goals you want then Codicote with 13 scored and six conceeded in two games looks a good bet.

Non league nutter, you picked the wrong time for your first visit to Oxhey Jets, you're a season too late. That place used to be a fortress. I would recommend watching Hanwell or Hertford. They'll be up there this season.

Thanks for the information regarding the season ahead. I heard so many good things about this Oxhey Jets side and such a shame regarding the team as the 4-2 defeat last night didn't look good. What happened to the team? Where did the players go? Is it the same manager as last season? I'm not sure I will watch them again for a while. As for a winner I see Hanwell won last night and London Tigers have 6 points out of 6 so will keep an eye on them too. What teams were promoted last season into this league?

Hertford sounds a great place this season and possible chance of winning the league? Putman at Wealdstone good move for him and shame about his injury. You mentioned Belstone in the Herts county? Is that league local too and what players went there and why? Sounds like things were not right at Oxhey Jets for players to leave and go there but Belstone must have a good side this season and have to be contenders for promotion?

Hertford Town won't be winning the league this year. But we are trying to build something sustainable that we can be proud of.

We are focussing on our youth players and their parents and making connections in the local community. This is behind the rise in attendances. The increased income from larger attendances is being used to improve the pitch and the facilities rather than paying players. So we are not attracting players that play for money......but we do attract players that love to play in front of lively, appreciative fans in good facilities.

We would encourage other clubs to do the same and make players think less about the cash and more about the fans, their community and the experience.

So no title charge this year.......but watch out for us in future years!

Good post Loucas. Hertford Town will be an amazing club in 10 years time as long as it continues along these lines of steady growth.

What I witnessed since my time on the committee was a club in dire straights financially, no link to the community, and certainly no plans for improvement, it was sailing along like a rudderless ship. Now it's gone from the red to the black, it's community based, linked with the youth teams, supported by the town councillors, great fans (as always) and on the verge on some superb plans which will take it to the next level. It's definitely a club for the future and with new facilities in place it will generate it's own budget to create a title winning team. Exciting times and definitely worth investing in.

Thanks for that and good luck to Hertford and their policy. As for the other questions regarding Oxhey Jets no one has any idea then what went on? Are the other team Belstone poaching these players or just leaving the club?

One Player left Jets who is the captain of the successful Belstone Sunday Team, he went to Belstone and took 4 or 5 players from last season.

2 players have gone to Hanwell Town, The manager left the club in the summer after 1 too many fall outs with the general manager.  A new manager was in place for the season only to leave due to family commitments 2 weeks before the season started.

Wayne Gladdy has stepped up to manage the first team and only 2 players from last season are still there, so he has an uphill task.  I think if Jets can avoid relegation it won't be a bad season!

I think the lack of ambition from the club led to many of last season's team leaving.  They had 2 good seasons with Putnam scoring goals for fun, challenging at the top of the league both seasons.  Last season in particular they were in a great position all the way through to challenge Aylesbury for second spot (and promotion), but because their ground isn't up to SL standard, they were not allowed to take the promotion, even if they achieved it.

But for a few ground improvements, they could have been playing SL football this season, or maybe next.  Short sighted attitude of their Board?
