1-2 Hatfield Town v London Tigers

1-1 Langford v Arlesey Town Reserves

Views from the Groundhoppers from another Forum

South Mids Premier at Gosling Sports Park, Welwyn Garden City.

Hatfield Town (Royal Blue/Royal Blue) 1-2 London Tigers (Orange/Black), HT 0-1.

Admission 6 quid, basic programme included, badge two fifty, cuppa 90p.

Attendance 27.

As athletics stadiums go (a great Velodrome by the way), this is one of the better viewing experiences, if you stand on the balcony at the 'trackside bar'. A great view from up there.

Arrived early to be greeted by the President, in the trackside bar, asking if I'd like a cuppa and to join his table, closely followed by a Tigers official. Very pleasant evening chatting with these lovely peope, and the game wasn't bad either.

Tigers having the best of the first half, and Hatfield coming back into it in the 2nd, a draw may have been a fair result. Both struggled near the bottom last season, so with the league looking weaker this season it'll be interesting to see how they fair.

President and his lady secretary/Rosemary (who had the badges) told me they plan to move to a new ground in Hatfield next season.

South Midlands League Division 1

LANGFORD 1-1 ARLESEY TOWN RESERVES

Admission & Prog £5.00 Cheeseburger £2.20 2x soup £1.60

Attendance 61 (h/c about 65, about 20ish from Arlesey)

The teams eventually deigned to kick-off at 7.50 and nothing of much note happened for the first three-quarters of the game leaving me to wonder if the dreaded 0-0 was going to raise its head in only my second game. Thankfully Arlesey finally broke the deadlock and thought they'd done enough until the hosts equalised late on. The programme claimed the visitors would given them a stern test, being as how they're the reserve side of a Southern League Premier team. There's another Southern League Premier team's reserve side in the division, but they didn't exactly pull up any trees last season.

Cheeseburgers continue to be excellent, but the soup, while very flavoursome, has the consistency of wallpaper paste. I'm sure that if they really tried, they could get two servings out of each packet given the size of the mugs.

I don't think he'd get in there. Underwood at Tring is argueably the best gk in the league. Speaking to my mate down at Oxhey, he said Stiles was having a season off and has got a season ticket at Arsenal, or at least that's what he told the club. We'll see if that's true or not if he turns out for a club this Saturday.

Looks like he was maybe pulling your leg Rendon (or you're talking rubbish again...!)

How did my 'tip for the top' Hanwell look?

All 3 views extremely interesting ... Stats don't lie though and Styles stats are stacked against Underwood for me so fingers crossed you'll keep your man and send him back down the A41 for us to see you next season and watch him nick a clean sheetsy against you fella's!

Spot on ... MoM was Hanwell number 8. Small bald guy bossed it and scored the third. Prob another 1 from the Duffy house of excellence.

Match report from Crawley Green

Spartan South Midlands League

Division One

Wednesday 14 Aug 13

Crawley Green 1 v Bedford 1

Crawley fought back to secure a point in a game which finished 1-1 and saw Bedford extend their unbeaten run to 17 games.

The game came to life after 8 minutes when Crawley’s Chris Gibson came close to putting through Hayden Wills.

From the blocked pass Bedford broke quickly and Crawley conceded a corner.

Jamie Cole picked out the unmarked Craig Grieves and he headed firmly past Dean Bull in the Crawley goal to make it 1-0.

Shortly after the visitors almost doubled their lead but William Sells shot over after being set up by Chris Johnson.

Crawley created their best chance of the game after 30 minutes.

Nicky Nolan and Stuart Strange combined to set up Chris Gibson but his shot was blocked.

On the stroke of half time Aaron Bodger in the Bedford let a long cross from Sam Dawe slip over his head but the ball was cleared and it finished 1-0 to Bedford at the break.

Bedford had the better of the game at the start of the second half and created a number of good chances.

After 50 minutes Gareth Hunt had a long range effort well saved by Bull.

Five minutes later Crawley left Craig Grieves unmarked again at a corner but this time he headed over.

Gareth Hunt then turned provider but his cross was put wide by Jamie Cole when he should have hit the target.

On the hour Grieves had yet another header from a corner go wide and then Chris Johnson shot over after a good run.

Crawley then introduced Peter O’Donnell and new signing Richard Pringle and the game completely changed.

Pringle added some much needed physical support to the hard working Gibson and Crawley fought their way back.

After 74 minutes Bedford were made to pay for their missed chances.

Stuart Strange picked out Peter O’Donnell down the left and his pin point cross was firmly headed home by Pringle to make it 1-1.

In an end to end finish neither side could break the dealock and it finished all square at the final whistle.

PREMIER DIVISION

2-1 Hertford Town v Stotfold

A report from another Forum:

Hertford Town 2 Stotfold 1

SSML Premier Division

Att: 101 Adm: £6 Prog £1

Not a great game but a smashing atmosphere and a lovely club. Enjoyed sitting above the tunnel in the stand. Enjoyed Hertford as a town too, with some very decent hostelries. A goalkeeping howler of the highest order for the winner and me getting an acca up when Maidstone scored in the 87th min to pay for that evening and the booze at England v Scotland made me very happy. Thanks Luton, Aldershot & Lowestoft also for winning!
