A team for Northwood

Now we've all seen all the pre-season games, thought it would be a bit of fun for us fans to pick a Slough team line up for Northwood.

Doesn't have to be what you think Bakes and Unders would choose or their preferred 4-4-2 formation.

On the evidence of what I've seen so far I would play a 4-3-1-2 of

Sommerville

Harrison Hollis Foulser Woozley[left back]

Fraser McClurg Short

Warren Harris[free role/licensed to roam]

Dyer Smith

Subs Scott Harris,Lake,Burgess,Wheeler,Edwards.

As the managers said in pre-season I think that it will be 4-4-2 all the way. That said I think they have some tough decisions to make - especially at centre back.

I'd have Hollis at centre back all day long. When he's played there we seem to have a lot more pace down the middle and look more solid (yesterday he was at RB and Wealdstone we crumbled when he went off injured). So that would prob mean leaving out Wooz or Foulser.

I'd go with:

Somerville

Harrison

Lake

Wooz

Hollis

McClurg

W Harris

Burgess

Smith

S Harris

Wheeler

Chris, I know it's only a bit of fun and it's your opinion but there's no way on earth that Adam Foulser will not be our first choice center back.

For me he's been outstanding in pre-season and he would be my first name on the team sheet.

Looking at Eddie Smith walking away on crutches I somehow doubt if he will be fit for Saturday.

I think you are right RR and he prob will play, but personally I'd just like to see Hollis at centre back (I think we've looked better pre season when he's played there) and therefore if we're playing 4-4-2 it's a straight decision between Wooz or Foulser which is a tough one.

Wooz is our player of the season - Mr reliable and has been excellent for us so I'd pick him to start the season. Foulser looks like a very good player, but as I say in a 4-4-2 we can't play all three at centre back.

1-3-4-2

Sommerville

Hollis

Harrison  Foulser  Lake

W Harris McClurg Short Wheeler

S Harris Dyer

Still undecided about the right back position but chose Harrison over Fraser because of his experience and physical presence.

I think center mid is another real problem position for the management. On pre-season performances I think you would choose Ollie Burgess over George Short but I've given George Short the nod because I think we have yet to see the best of him and would hope that he produces it when the serious stuff starts on Saturday.

I think the forward pairing is another problem area. I would have chosen Ed Smith over Scott Harris but because I don't think he will be fit I have gone for Scott Harris because of his pre-season performances.

Another fly in the ointment might be Aaron Couch. If he signs (and it looks like he will) he will come into the equation but will probably start on the bench.

I'd use Hollis's pace just behind Foulser. Let Foulser play his natural game of attacking the ball with Hollis playing a type of sweeper role.

Woozie is Mr reliable but certainly vulnerable to pace when isolated.

Having seen none of the pre-season games I feel perfectly qualified to comment on this so:

Sommerville

Fraser Hollis Foulser Lake

W Harris Mcclurg Burgess Wheeler

S Harris Dyer

(Only omitted Smith as I presume he is injured)

Not bad for someone who has seen a game yet   ;)

Smith in if fit and I reckon we may have short instead of burgess.

I've been to all the friendlies, and I haven't seen enough of Dyer or Short to convince me they should start.  If Smith is fit I think he should start alongside Scott Harris who has impressed me the most in pre season.

Somerville

Fraser, Hollis, Woolzey, Lake

W Harris, McClurg, Burgess, Wheeler

S Harris, Smith

No names but if we start with 3 old slough players I think the remaining 8 will contain 4 players better than last seasons counterparts. 1 similar and 3 weaker.

It's all about opinions DJD.

I'll start with IMO we now have a better all round keeper than last season.

Obviously all about opinions everyone, however I ask that you don't start saying such and such is better/worse than so and so from last year... give these guys a chance, none of the new players have even played a competitive game for Slough, as I am sure you will see competitive games are a very different animal to friendlies.

My opinion is you have seen a few that have performed in certain games, and some that have not pre season and who have a lot more to offer, and that is old and new players..... Other than a couple of games I don't really think we have got into our stride.

I just hope that everyone can get behind whatever side we put out on Saturday, and be as positive as possible, because like it or not, the players that we have in the squad will form the basis of the squad for the season, and it does not half help when you have the support of everyone.

They may need a bit more time to gel properly, as even when you bring in 3 or 4 new players to a side, it can affect the dynamics slightly, and these lads just have to get used to playing with each other, and I have no doubt that once they do, we will be strong contenders.

However the hope is that it clicks this weekend and we can get off to a positive start, but like we have said throughout, no game in this league is a gimme.... and that will certainly be the case Saturday.
