Team selections

Is anyone concerned at the number of players we are using in ore season? I can't seem to thi k of many if any players who have played a full 90 minutes yet. Surely our 1st choice 11 should be fielded this weekend without multiple changes. It concerns me with the season being just a week away. Are some of these players going to be realistically in the team next Saturday?

Not particuarly EU no. We are still to field our strongest team and are still fielding X1's full of extra players who IMO arent good enough to push our current first X1. I was not at yesterdays game but it again appears that multiple subs were made.I'd like to see the first x1 fielded tomorrow night in preparation for the starting lineup on Saturday.

Perhaps a debate on what that starting selection should be would be a good debate?

P.S Results mean absolutely nothing at this stage also.

Imber, Lockie, Wild, Kirby, Kendall, Wallace, Hunt, Campbell, Whiteley, O'Brien, Hope

I don't like including Lockie and Kendall as full-backs. I think they're awful, especially Lockie. I just can't think of anyone else now that Jey's gone. I'm only including Whitely on the strength of that Witham game, and we could do with a replacement for O'Brien. Apart from that, the starting XI looks pretty solid.

Well it certainly is a game of opinions! What a random team!

Neither of those are left backs! What about Stevens?

Whitely on the strength of the Witham game? Was he that good? I heard he was very raw?

Jonathan Hunt!!!!! - is he even with the club? Not played 1 pre season friendly!

CD Towner - you're right, it does seem like an odd selection - I thought that as I was typing it. Allow me to struggle to justify it.

Steve Newing said in the members' meeting that Jonathan Hunt will play one more season with us before retiring, and he's not played in any pre-season games because he's busy doing... something. I've forgotten.

Corey Whitely, while not spectacular against Witham, at least looked enthusiastic and he beat a few players and got the ball across every now and then. I can't think of anyone I've not picked who's looked better. Joe Stevens? I can't remember a single thing he's ever done.

I know that there isn't a left-back there, but I simply couldn't remember one. Phil Kane? Is he a left-back?

8/9 of the starting 11 last night would be close to Steve's first choice I would imagine. Gunz and Joey OB were the two omissions for me that I would have starting every game. Not a bad performance really, a win is a win. Better to have defensive lapses in PSFs than in real games.

As has been said about Jon Hunt, Steve would like him to play for us but work commitments meant he's had no time. It's to be JH's last season and he want sto play for Enfield Town and no-one else. hopefully we'll see him soon as I think his experience is invaluable.

I think we look fantastic, the squad is obviously refreshed and regenerated from last seasons successful slog, almost everyone wants to re-sign for the club except for J Sivva who wants more regular football than he was getting (and I sympathise with him) and at the same time the manager can only put 11 on the pitch and Jay was more often than not left out.

Our signings are excellent, which will improve our first X1 if they stay fit and available.

Johnston, Ewang, Pennant, are like 3 new signings who were invariably unavailable last season and are looking great in pre season.

So a noisy Home crowd for our opening League Fixture will be expecting passion, positivity, desire, fire in the bellies and a hunger to win, cos as loyal as I am to the cause I along as everyone else I've chated to would'nt expect anything less.

Conclusion- Looking forward to Saturday.

Not sure about O'Brien.

Of the starting X1 last night I cant see Dean Pennant starting on Saturday either

I'm very sure about Joe, I think the midfield was unbalanced last season, which has been rectified this season, Joe for one should excell with 2-3 from Kirby, Pennant, Ewang, Johnston playing alongside him and the Wild factor in defence.

Jonathan Hunt must be 41-42 years of age now, he can be useful with his deliveries from corners and free kicks, but the more industrious you are in midfield at this level  the more effective you tend to become. JH's pitful is he no longer is industrious therefore (unfortunately) can be a luxury/liability if he has an off day which lets face it he had a few in a team which last season had it's work cut out.

Saying all that he too may benefit with the additions we've made but he'll be my 6th midfield player of the 6 mentioned above.
