Bishops Stortford Tonight

Recommended Posts

It's been a very strange pre-season, hardly any home friendlies, tonight will be my first attendance for a game in the close season ( weather permitting) and there has been very little information about the make up of the squad. Hopefully all will be revealed soon.

Hard to believe we are under 2 weeks away from our first Ryman fixture of 2013. Fingers crossed for a good season and good luck to Steve, Craig and the squad. COYB.

Do you mean in terms of the result?

We weren't very good is the simple answer. Sounds like the same problem as Saturday, they seemed much better prepared and were a lot better than us.

The defence in particular seems very poor. Only the keeper really came out of the first half with any credit. The referee didn't help the game, but we were very much second best. We were better in the 2nd half, but we still struggled to play anything that could be considered football.

Given how much better we seemed against Tilbury, I hope it's because of the opposition, but I'm not entirely convinced. I hope there are worse teams in the Ryman, or I fear we're going to struggle.

Last night I broke a resolution I made many years ago - that is, don't bother with friendlies.

As a spectator, you don't know how strong the opposition is ( BStd didn't exactly take BSN by storm last season ) and the Town appeared very " mix and match" .

Our No 2 looked useful but the rest of the first half defence was woeful ( where were they when the keeper palmed the first penalty?). There were one or two  solid performances and the keeper should be ok. Otherwise, the best thing that can be said is that it was another 90 minutes towards match fitness.

if the referee was also warming up for the season ahead, he has some way to go. He was more than twice the distance from the 2nd penalty incident than his assistant, who was level.  Surely you consult, rather than guess ,on what was a 50/50 collision

I thought the 2 was decent - the rest of the starting back 4 were abysmal but we know at least two of them won't start the first game.

When we got our "rested" players on in the second half the game was much more even and I still think we will be able to field a pretty decent xi for the first game.

At least one centre half critically required and probably another striker. Still not worried about the results until 'Arrow away.
