The Football Club has confirmed that Saturday 3rd August 2013 home match versus Molesey will be Free Entry to all!!!

 

That's Free Entry for you, your wife, grandma, uncle, girlfriend, everyone you know! So, extend the invitation to everyone in your phone contact list, email address, twitter account and more.

Well, they have got an away friendly this Saturday!

Without ever really taking off that was a good game.

 

Kirby and Hicks were very solid at the back. Hicks seems more mature and composed this year.

 

Interestingly Hicks played under Tony Thompson in Slough's successful U18 team that won their league 3 years ago - maybe he has the "key" to his potential.

 

Thought Pearse played well too.

 

Considering we were without our regular midfielders Sheehan, Dexter and Minhas, for me, that confirmed my optimism for the season ahead.

 

Well done Mick, Tony and the lads.

 

PS I never cease to be amazed at how Mick (& Tony now) manage to find these new players from! Wyk and Richardson-Hodge today flown in from apparently nowhere....

Well, My first competitive Windsor fixture since September last year and I was not disappointed. I think that 3-0 may have flattered overall as Molesey had a great chance to score when 0-0 with a one on one which was brilliantly dealt with by Carl Dennison. From my viewpoint, Molesey were denied a clear penalty with a very clumsy shove in the back which the officials did not react to. Even when 1-0 up, Molesey could have equalised when a free kick was well saved by Dennison. Then again, Windsor created a number of good goal scoring chances and, with a little more composure, should have scored more.

 

The most pleasing aspect of the game was the spirit shown by both sides. Next to no nastiness and a distinct lack of verbal abuse to be heard. No dissent shown to the officials either so great credit must go to both clubs.

 

Next home game on the 10th and I will be there earlier than yesterday!

I've been thinking about the Free Admission Promotions, and wonder whether we could make more capital out of them.

 

The thing is with these promotions, I suppose it is all about how many enjoy the experience of the 1st day and keep coming back... the club has to do everything it possibly can to maximise the chances of that happening.

Most 1st timers or very occasionals who have come along will have enjoyed the games they've seen under free admission as they've all been good days in their own ways (yes, Windsor got hammered last year but Guernsey played some exceptional football which was a joy to watch at times) but the softcore will not keep coming back unless it is put in their face all the time. That takes constant marketing - much as the Supporters Club does with Matt's excellent emails.

My advice to the club would be to find a way of getting more email addresses. With the Free Admission games there could also be an attractive Prize Draw (£100 cash perhaps) but only available to those who leave their email addresses with the club. That way the club can continue to communicate with that softcore and, inevitably, more will come down to future games.

It ain't going to double the gate, but it WILL have a positive effect and would cost virtually nothing to set up.

 

Everyone attending the game could be given a slip of paper asking for Name, email address and who they support (so away supporters can be weeded out of future email campaigns). Fill it in and you go into the Box for the £100 Prize Draw which could be done at Half-Time....

 

I'm sure there's something in this, even if the idea of a Prize Draw is somewhat at odds with the essence of a Charity Day.

 

Anyway, hopefully that's some food for thought.

Food for thought indeed - now all we need is for someone to stump up the £100 and take responsibility for the collation of the database and the mass email campaigns ! 

What I would rather see is more volunteers offering to help the club on matchdays and with general tidying up around the ground.  Most if not all of our current volunteer base are double or triple tasking at present and can't or won't accept any further workload whereas a few extra bodies would actually decrease the workload on those concerned so they might even get to watch some of the football themselves ! 

On that note I would like to thank Peter Martin who thoroughly washed and cleaned the dressing rooms prior to the start of the season, Kim & Steve who cleaned the turnstiles, toilets under the stand and the main stand itself [over the course of two days] and Eoin Griffin who arrived back off holiday Friday and spent most of Saturday before, during and after the game doing little jobs around the ground and you have to remember it is an old ground that needs a lot of TLC to keep it in shape.  If everyone of the 300+ people that were here yesterday offered just an hour a month to do the necessary jobs at the club it would look so much smarter and those currently doing what they can wouldn't be under so much pressure.  Don't forget the club belongs to the community not just the few doing the work !  .

Steve, the U15s are currently training at Dedworth Rec, on Wednesday evenings. If a session could be held on the training pitches at Stag Meadow perhaps we could get the lads all down an hour early armed with hoes / secateurs / forks whatever and some black bags and break the back of the necessary weeding etc.

 

Anything that can forge stronger links between club and potential future players is a win win. Plus the weeding would get done.

 

I'd have to run it past Craig of course but do you think that might be do-able from the clubs viewpoint?

Of course that needn't only apply to the U15s...

 

Perhaps a similar invitation could be extended to other age groups.

And Steve, this is not a pop at you because I understood and respected the decision at time (and it wasn't your decision anyway IIRC), but if the U15s (then U14s) had been given the nod to play their final, Championship clinching, game at Stag Meadow last season, those self-same lads would probably have felt more inclined to give an hour of their time to weeding (in the idea above) because they would have been made to feel a little bit closer to their Community Club.

 

As I say, not saying it was a wrong call, but there's always a long term vision that is worth considering with these things.

 

Actually that is particularly apt when you look at the whole ethos of the club.

I didn't go to watch my lot at Harrow so took the ten minute stroll down the road yesterday.

 

I was impressed by the attendance and quality of the pitch (clearly I wish Slough were still at Stag Meadow!) I would love to see us try and similar freebie initiative when we finally manage to get back to Slough as it's a great way to attract casual support.

 

As for the game, it was a decent spectacle for the most part. Windsor certainly deserved the win as, after a good start, I thought Molesey were poor and didn't threaten enough until near the end when they were chasing the game and brought on their big striker. They should really have scored at least once but were punished with the third. Was impressed by Hicks - he looks to be an absolute tank and has come a long way from the Slough youth side mentioned above. Could be a very important player and leader. Number 10 (Lazarczuk?) also stood out. Think I'm right in saying Kyle Lucas is another of Tony Thompson's former Slough youth players. He looks a bit lightweight and was knocked off the ball too easily at times, but hopefully he will also come on a long way in your side.

Matt, why wait until you are in your new ground.

 

The main complaint that our supporters have is that there are not enough supporters to fund the running of the club while ground sharing.  Surely you, as a club, should be rying to get as many supporters through the turnstiles as possible, as son as possible.

I think it's certainly do-able and is actually a very good idea so I'll ask the powers that be and see if we can set something up !  If you speak to Craig as well as it's something that needs doing fairly soon and would be ideal whilst they're on their school holidays and the evenings are still light.  I think it would also make a good community news item for the local press.

I'm glad you understood the decision because I can't remember why. LOL.  We have always said that whenever possible we will stage semi-finals, finals, etc for any of our youth teams with enough notice and did do so a couple of times last season but there will always be the possibility that we can't comply with a particular request because of other fixtures, weather, etc.  As you well know the long-term vision is all about involving everybody and if and when we can afford to convert the main pitch to a 3rd or 4th generation artificial surface then we can effectively host games 24/7 but at present the surface we have which we're justifiably proud of needs a certain element of protection and is very costly to maintain so we do have to plan out its use very carefully !

Well then, with Hayden's very generous offer and Tracy having been volunteered [bet she doesn't know yet. LOL.] coupled with your offer to do the marketing it looks like we have the beginning of a plan !  That's exactly the sort of thing I was on about though, people using their talent in their own way to help the club albeit for an hour or whatever time they can spare.  Can I suggest that you, Hayden and I have a chat this Saturday [Hayden won't be at RPV tomorrow] to formulate a proposal which I can then present to the committee for approval ?  Our next scheduled free entry/charity day is scheduled for October but looking at the fixtures we haven't currently got a home Saturday fixture then so it might be early November which gives us enough time to implement your idea.
