All those absences that Neil listed at the start of this thread underline what I was saying about the need for the squad to be 20 not 18............the reasons for absences are exactly those that I said happen at this level of football

I think it would be great to have a squad of 20 Graham, however we also need to fit to a budget, and 20 players is just not possible.

 

We will have a few other players signed on in the case of emergencies, and hopefully one or two that are dual signed elsewhere, and that will hopefully help us through any times when we have players missing.

Just as a matter of interest,as I wasn't at today's game.Who played centre midfield in the 2nd half?

Presume Logie to be one,who was the other please and how did they play together,as a pair?

 

Thanks ARAAS,for telling me Logie and Burgess played in the 2nd half together.Do you know that is a first.

Steve Bateman never ever played those two together in central midfield.He played them a few times with another player as a midfield three but never as a pair.

Strange considering how experienced both are.

Personally I thought Biggleswade were weaker than the team we played last season, although they were still very strong defensively. According to someone we chatted to 5 of last years squad have gone with 3 going to Barton . Not trying to take anything away from the boys as they were very good yesterday especially Couch and Scott Harris

A much improved performance on Wednesday, which we expected.... maybe the 2 games in 2 days took its toll a bit...

 

Was pleased with our performance especially first half, where somehow we found ourselves a goal down, when we should have probably been at least 2 up, thought second half was a bit more even with them also coming close on a couple of occasions.

 

There were a lot of positives throughout the game, and thought this was a perfect pre season game, as it was played in a similar style to what a league game would be, they have a great set up at Biggleswade, and even though it is a bit of a journey for a pre season game, was delighted we got it.

 

Thought Scott Harris was excellent second half and with 5 goals in 5 games is hitting the ground running, he is sometimes a little unconventional, however he is so strong, and creates problems in a back 4, and the second goal all came about because he outmuscled 2 defenders and created panic in the box allowing Ready to score.

 

One bit of news is we had a good chat with Dan Read, who will be going back to Godalming next week.

 

He feels that he needs to be playing week in week out, and at present knows he is behind the other lads up front, and if honest we cant really argue with that, however never say never in football, and he may be someone that if he finds his form of the year before that we go back in for at a later date.

Bakes or Unders, how near are you to naming the final squad?

 

Also, can you say what the likely-hood is of signing Aaron Couch?

 

I see that after playing yesterday he has gone on holiday.

I think Ryan Blake played and scored for Burnham yesterday unless it was another Ryan Blake!

Very enjoyable game thought  they all played  well, looking good and thank god we didnt need Mr T.

 

See you were not there Eddie to help me with your fountain of knowledge on names.  Thankfully I have a new way of getting to know the players I just ask them, as Jamie found out !!
