Big J R
...... Mewcenary
I think it makes more sense, to be honest. Scenario: Defender needs to clear the ball, which is coming from up high. An off-side attacker runs at him. Would you expect the flag to go up? Previously, no, this is not offside, as it doesn't tick the box for interfering. Now, sensibly, it does. The attacker is making a challenge and so can be flagged.
E&E Rich
"Though the alterations are designed to cut out grey areas in the interpretation of the offside rule’s criteria, the Daily Mail reports that English refs are concerned that it will in fact lead to even more confusion among players and fans - and even more criticism aimed at officials." I agree with Mewcenary, this scenario should be offside. The quote I attached above came from the report, and it really frustrates me. If more confusion is possible it can only be down to a lack of education, as this tweak is very sensible and easy to explain. So communication is required to get the message across. In a perfect world the FA would insist that this new law and its interpretation be included in EVERY club's first two match programmes. However, this is an opportunity for the CCL to take the lead here and insist that ALL CCL clubs do this. In the same way that the League insist the sponsors advert goes in, they could produce an article and send that out at the same time. At least CCL clubs and supporters will be better educated which is a start. This can only be good for the officials as whilst I am quite prepared to say that I've moaned at a ref before (who hasn't?), I've heard dozens of moans where the spectator is wrong about the laws and these unnecessary situations will happen less often as a result. Smudge
Maybe the CCL Committee, should embrace the above idea,on their brand new Website.
E&E Rich
Or, maybe some people here should offer their services to get it done instead of criticising. It's easy to criticise, but I've found that criticism is only really valid when it is constructive. And putting the article on the website doesn't solve the issue. Far more people read the match programme than those who would look at the website regardless of how good it is.
Don't Blame Me
I like your idea Richard. I would go one further and have all CCL clubs print out the new rule and hand it out at the turnstiles so spectators are aware. Might be an idea to leave copies on clubhouse tables and the Match Officials' changing rooms There is nothing to stop Clubs quoting the new ruling on their websites either. Basically, the more that this is communicated, the better.
