Club Sponsors

Recommended Posts

I remain very concerned about this, the letter went some way to reducing my concerns, however then I had a glance through their Facebook page. It seems some of their members are not pleased with the idea of paying just for sponsorship and are considering not renewing their membership, this was the response of the admin...

"...the idea of sponsoring is to be sure we have the right club this time. No need to jump into ownership straight away. Buying shares is an option for the future but only if people stick around to see if our relationship can work with Slough. If people don't renew then ownership will never happen."

If there is any intent at all of trying to buy our club at any time in the future then I am not convinced that this is a good move for us. Like many others on here I'm sure I don't want to see the club taken over by MYFC either now or in two years.

If it remains as sponsorship I'm willing to trust our chairman but if it gets to any more than that then I'm afraid I'm not on board with it.

There are certain members of myfc who will only be satisfied with ownership. It is these members who refused to sell our club until we were on the brink of bankruptcy, despite it being apparent it wasn't working years before.

Part of the problem is, is that any dissenting voices are dismissed by them as troublemakers and are ignored. It took 400 signatures and quite vitriolic protest at our match against Telford before they started to give up the game, despite regularly being pointed to their failings for years before.

They struggle to grasp basic concepts regarding their own abilities to run a club, then blame the club/fans when things start to go pest shaped. Sponsorship is just a foot in the door for them. If they get in your club they will ruin it, and I genuinely believe one day they will kill a club.

This is a great deal for MyFC..

Despite the 3000 committed members comment, 2000 odd of them only came back because it was free, and more than likely won't renew, so you're looking at 1000 members at most. But certainly enough to get themselves ingrained into your club and certainly enough that if your club becomes community owned, they'll outnumber you 2 to 1.

You're being lied to.

It may seem like sour grapes from us, but why would we care? We got what we wanted, they left. It took us a while, but they're gone and we seem to have a pretty cracking set up in their stead, we're happy, but don't like to see another club go through what had to.

They will try to take over your club, they have to, it's the only way they'll be able to attract new members and survive. A sponsorship of a club your size won't bring in too many, especially with the reputation they have.

I'll leave it at that, Looking at their forum a second ago it looks like they've been told to leave your forum alone for a while as to avoid the malicious posts lol, so at least you'll be spared the usual lies

The thought had occurred to me that we had won the vote because we are a club with potential however with a small enough regular fan base that any dissenting voices could be ignored by the obvious majority of MYFC members over our own support.

To see this you have to be a member of MYFC

(iv) It is my intention to re-structure the ownership of the club within the next year to a community owned club. I am familiar with the MYFC model of one person one vote (also functioning at Lewes I believe), and this would be the preferred model. In the near future I will be contacting and engaging with Supporters Direct to explore and establish the best and easiest way to implement community ownership.

This is exactly the same as the Slough Town Supporters Trust is run.

1) you pay for membership

2) you get 1 share for 1 year

3) maximum number of shares per person is 1 ( this is so 1 person CAN NOT own the [in this case] Trust)

4) the trust itself holds 51% of the shares ( so 1 collective CAN NOT own the [in this case] Trust)

So if we are to become a 'community owned club' as per the Lewes model, this will allow anyone to pay a fee for 1 share in the club for one year.

Would having all these people owning a share in our club have any implications on the day to day running of Slough Town?

I’d be concerned about this if I were a Slough Town fan to be honest.

MyFC want to ‘get involved’ with the day to day running of a football club. That is not going to come through sponsoring the away shirt but that will be foot in the door that they need.

Both your chairman and supporters trust need to be alert to the massive risk of letting people with NO experience whatsoever play at running a football club.

I have read the open letter from MyFC and would just like to point out that they did not ‘sell’ their interest in the Fleet. They nearly let the club go to the wall and only backed out following a large scale fans protest and an offer from our new (competent) owners that they could not turn down.

It seems that they have pledged about half of that money to Slough Town.

As stated above, the membership figures are also false as they allowed ex members to rejoin for nothing in an attempt to bolster the figures. Not all ex members though. They have been banning the people that upset the apple cart and also sifting through their personal details, which I am sure is a breach of the data protection act.

I am certain that one of the reasons why Slough has been ‘chosen’ is proximity to Heathrow airport. I am quite sure that this will have been mentioned as a reason to get overseas members involved. The usual MyFC rubbish basically.

I am very glad that MyFC are no longer involved with the Fleet. It has been a trying few years, particularly the last couple.

The MyFC mottos is ‘Own the Club. Pick the team.’

Slough Town fans (the proper ones) would do well to bear that in mind when thinking of the future of the football club.

The reason could be that Leamington refused to let a MyFC member onto their Board.

MyFC members vote on all sorts of things. Perhaps we as supporters of the club should have the opportunity to have some sort of vote on whether we should be involved in this...

One Question have you got trust in Steve E and the board to do the right thing for the club?

I think we all trust Steve Easterbrook and the board but as supporters I think we all need to know that once the 2 year sponsorship deal is up and if MyFC come into some sort of partnership with Slough that they don't eventually end up owning or running our club.

And for the record, the personal details thing was me.

We wanted to join anonymously to see what the reaction was on their to our protests etc. I joined their site with a user name with no connection to me and an email that didn't mention my name. I had to use my credit card to join though, and that had my name on it. Later on a member who is a friend of one of the sites admins used my name when he addressed me. How could he have known it was me unless he was given that information? And where could that info have come from other than my credit card details?

MyFC's society board chose to ignore it though when I made a complaint.

With all due respect to what our chairman has done for the club, with all the information that has come out in the light of this (including all the things that happened with Ebbsfleet), I'm not happy and I agree with Matt, why were we given no option on being paired up with such a controversial group who saved a club and then ran it into the ground?

Similarly, why had no information on this apparent plan to make the club 'community run' not get passed on to us before MyFC? Does this mean that our chairman has had enough and wants to move on?

I suspect this issue will now dominate the fans forum instead of our new players and management.

Seriously reconsidering my plan to but a new shirt this year now.

Dan what has come out apart from personal opinion,

so to get back at?  by not getting a shirt who is that hurting (you'll take money away from the club you support) I don't understand that at all.

At the end of the day it's a sponsorship for 2 years, as said before if all goes pear shaped the bye bye.

Good luck, we were never give the opportunity to vote for them.

With due respect, as far as I'm aware weren't Ebbsfleet in dire straights financially and as such you would almost certainly have voted to have them on board?
