michael
One element in the team that Margate have not had in the last couple of seasons (since lacy and Wilson) is a free kick specialist and a long throw specialist. Very neaderthal tactics-but this is the ryman-not the Europa league-and with the majority of goals at this being scored/conceded from set plays-imo-and important part of a successful ryman team. Has to be said that when we had lacy-the team probably did not take as much advantage of his throws as they should-but doesn't mean the ploy was wrong-just the conversion of the ploy(and some may say that bodkin is a good free kick taker (decent player but no free kick specialist imo) If it made the difference of just 4 more goals per season-getting a couple of players with those additional facets to their game would really help-it may just secure two extra points-and a few small differences makes all the difference between success and averageness. again-basic stuff-but 'play' the percentages-and I could not care two hoots about the pretty stuff-just wan effective stuff

Prodigal son
Be interesting to know just what percentage of Wilsons free-kicks ever led to anything positive, from what I remember most were over hit, just like his corners.
michael
perhaps I just saw the' wrong games 'and on that basis would tend to disagree with the above. depends on expectations though- mine would be about one in twelve to lead to a goal-direct or indirect. I think at championship level-its about one in eight. If you expect a goal on every three .opportunities-you may have a long wait wherever you go. but if it all leads to one or two more points over and above what would otherwise have been achieved-it makes all the difference

Wayne would have had more options with last seasons team the season before was really a write off with his injury.
michael
much as I thought even when fit-CK 'underplayed' WW and he was a very good ryman premier player : I wasn't specifically advocating the 'return of wayne ';but simply offering for debate whether there is merit in having free kick/long throw specialists in a team at this level. blueblood
The problem with Aaron Lacey's throws was not anything other than variation of length, he was all too predictable hence, easy to deal with. The difference between a Delap throw and a Lacey. The opposition did not know at what point/distance the Delap one was going to drop like a V1 /V2 flying bomb. Don't forget the under used Curtis Robinson throw on the other wing. Wayne is still here(be it in a different capacity), fulfilling a very important role for the Club. Always Gate
I do believe that the Captain has a long throw, as for dead ball kicks (Bryan Clifton was the best), why not try to vary freekicks, there are too many players who think they can bend it like you know who !
