CD Towner
Really disappointing to see another talented young player leave the club. Steve Newing says he was unable to give assurances about the left back position, well I hope he has a replacement in mind as it now leaves us very short of options and definitely short of good options in that position. Just why did SN not rate Jey? On the plus side good to hear Chris Wild is returning, a welcome addition. Only 8 players signing on - was it a poorly attended session? We're any supporters present? OldTowner
Always a shame when good players (and in this case a Fans fav) decide to move, but it is no real surprise. Great guy, good going forward, but in the Prem, is he a great defensive left back ? I always enjoyed his attacking style, rather than defending mode. All about opinions. I am sure everyone wishes Jey well. Will be interesting to see if he gets into the Stones side.
Steph
I thought that criticism of Jey's defending was based on his build. He did not look like a tough defender and often his positioning could be criticised however he was tenacious and tackling was always well timed and having got possession had the ability to find time on the ball - always the mark of a good player. Still with chris coming back to the club I think he would have found it even harder to get into the side.
andyetfc
Best full back we had during the last two seasons. Good luck to him wherever he goes.
Arthur Salisbury
The full-backs have been our weakness for a while, but I always rated Jey. Steve Newing should have given him an assurance, given that Jey's clearly our best left-back by a mile. What a shame he had to go to Wealdstone #whaaaaaaatashitto
Steve Newing
2nd worse defensive record in the league last season vast amount of experience brought in with Wildy re signing , Jey leaving ( against Steve's wishes ) as I understand mainly as he felt Wealdstone being more established will suit his style of full back play better. What player doesn't want to be 1st choice in their given position , but if that guarantee isn't given they either stay and fight for it or look elsewhere , it would appear the latter has happened here. Our defensive record improved dramatically in the second half of the season as has been pointed out by Steve , with Wildy resigning it will surely improve even more. CD Towner
I think the point is if no new left backs are coming in, why wasn't he given assurances as he is clearly better than all our other options??? As far as I'm aware, Chris Wild is not a left back!
OldTowner
Perhaps Barders has pushed for that spot. Perhaps there is a new player coming in. Perhaps we need to wait and see. Jey made it fairly clear on presentation night that he would be moving on. As noted above by Comeon - last seasons defence was not the best. If Jey were to return to the fold, it should be in mid-field / attack.
CD Towner
Bardle is not the answer IMO.
Arkwright
There's always the option of Chalky playing at left back.....
OldTowner
There's always the option of Chalky playing at left back..... Ha Ha, Perhaps we will play 3 across the back and no left or right back - solves to problem !!!!
Steph
OT We were thinking along the same lines.
Chase Side Towner
Jey's great going forward. His crossing is generally excellent, but apart from his speed, his defending is not great, especially against more robust forwards. Shame to see him go, I thought he would have made an excellent left sided midfielder/winger who could cover at left back as required.
