Trials day

Anyone heard how the trials day went earlier, were there any good prospects found ?

Surely Neil and Jon would want to keep any finds under raps to stop other teams coming in for them.

i didnt want names, there were some varying views on whether the trials were goiung to be productive or just a waste of time, i was just curious on how it went.

Real mixed bag Older Ram, a lot of young lads there from various areas, youngest being 16, but most I would say under the age of 20.

 

Quite tough conditions considering the heat, however there was 24 in total, and myself and Jon took them for close to an hour and a half.

 

Potentially one that we will want to see train with the first team, depending on his circumstances.

 

Probably found 2/3 for Marks youth team, which means that we can also keep an eye on them, maybe 2 or 3 others that might have something, but at this stage a little bit away from where they need to be for us at the moment.

 

In those situations we will look to get those particular lads with a step 5 side to gain some senior football experience, and watch them develop, having good tie ups with a number of local teams at step 5 in combined counties, Hellenic and Wessex will be handy considering we are not running with a reserves side.

 

This is no different than what we did with George Short when he was 16, sending him out to a step 6 side, to physically toughen up and get 40 plus games under his belt, but at the same time having dialogue with him and the manager.

 

He then came back to us a year later, and the development in a year of playing senior football was huge, he has now had 3 years of senior football, with last year him playing close to 40 games at 18/19, and it will only bode well for him moving into this season.

i respected what Steve Bateman achieved for us greatly but looking to bring through young players was obviously not top of his priorities.

 

massively impressed that you are prepared to help promising players out by finding them the best possible way to learn with an eye on the future of both them and this club.
