Trials day

Recommended Posts

I must admit I was a bit gobsmacked to read about the trials day we are holding.

No sure but is it the first time Slough have held one for the first team?

Just wondered what the rashionale (I think that's how you spell it) was behind it? or is it just plain and simple to maybe find the odd nugget?

Not something we'd normally do but we've had so many requests for trials we thought we'd have a look. Also gives us a chance to get to know some of our youth team lads as some of them will be

Involved. Finally as we haven't taken a session on the training ground before its a good chance for us to get to know the place before we start properly a few days later.

Some of the UKFF lads might be interested in this - they recently beat a Luton Town Development/Academy side 3-0 so are definitely no shirks.

I think you'll find the trials are at Farnham Park and the first team train at The Polish Club

You just can't get the staff these days ;-)....... Yep as Unders mentioned you never know what you might find, either way it will probably be a run through for what our first pre season session will consist off anyway.

We have had a number of people asking about joining the club, and from our point of view it is very difficult to say just come along to first team training, as the types of sessions we put on, if the player turns up and is limited, it can have a real effect on the session, as things can end up breaking down on that player.

So we want to be in a position whereby we know exactly what we will have at training and they are all at a certain level, and as you say if we pick 1 or 2 up from the session, great, if not no harm done.

Good luck with the trial day, this is definitely the sort of thing that more clubs should do.

I would recommend Malick Mbaye Gueye and Nuno Carracha from UKFF as players that would definitely benefit Slough Town FC.

The Trials Day information has been emailed to the Slough Observer, Slough Express, Maidenhead Advertiser, Bucks Advertiser and www.nonleaguedaily.com Hopefully all of them will place this onto their websites by this weekend.

Thanks as always Glen.

Sounds very promising, hopefully we may find a little gem hidden away and will also attract the local players who want to play for their town.

A very good idea

Not sure if it will be a little gem hidden away. Seems like the applicants, so to speak, will be vetted based upon their football career/history to date.

Quite a few lower clubs do this but up the pyramid I get the impression the managers like to trust their scouts or themselves to unearth players.

For me a trials day for clubs is a no brainer, costs nothing really and there's nothing to lose.

I think some managers need to realise they don't know every player out there which is why some up the leagues don't really entertain the idea.

I have nicked the idea btw and proposed it on our forum
