You really need to read the POST again. SM is on about 3 items about the same thing in 3 different THREADS, not about more than 1 POST on each THREAD.,.,.,.,.he,he

Mark, I might be being thick but I think it can be read as one or the other as SM ends the sentence then he starts with the word also.... :)

RR       "It bugs me that whenever there is a match we have about 3 threads pop up for it, can we try and keep it to one"?  AND "We currently have about 3 topics that basically cover transfer activity".

Which leads to "Also, please try and avoid double, triple posting".

That is 3 THREADS IE saying The Earth Spins,,,,,,,Then someone putting the POST saying "It Spins to the Right" 3 time on 3 THREADS.

Blimey!

I’ll try and explain my suggestions again chaps.

The first was related to having a multitude of topics which are essentially about the same thing. The example I used was whenever we have a match, often 2 sometimes even 3 topics crop up and discussion gets spread across those when it would be more readable and interesting in one thread. I’d like to see one of the website guys set up a topic for each match a couple of days in advance and get everyone to stick to that.

The following topics on the first 2 pages of the board: “New Players”, “Ex Player Movement”, “Signings”, “Warro signs for....” , “Players starting to depart...”, “Dyer and wheeler sign for the rebels” all relate to transfers real or imagined. I would suggest that it might be easier to follow if we say, had two topics, one for actual transfers that are confirmed by the club or Neil and Jon, and another for say transfer gossip where RR’s latest nuggets from Twitter could go. Just a suggestion and it’s probably too far gone to change it this preseason anyway.

My other point was related to someone double or triple posting or “spamming” in any given topic. On some message boards I visit this is banned. I think if you forget something from your original post you could either think about what you want to communicate a bit more clearly, or failing that, use the “edit” function to append your original post. It is possible to respond to multiple post by using the “multi quote” function – just press it for all the posts you want to quote...very simple!

This are just quite minor aesthetics I think might improve the forum, not an attack on any fellow Rebels fans. I think Gary is in a tough position walking the tightrope between keeping the club happy and providing the fans with a forum such as this where their voice can be heard so any ideas or help we can give him would be appreciated I’m sure.

Considering quite a lot of posts are discussion and people responding I think it would be unfair to class replies to different issues within that topic as spamming. Agree with your comments about similar threads appearing at same time.. But that is what will happen when people can creat their own topics... Only way round that is for one individual (ie the club) to be the only one able to start threads...(big brother is watching) I do think this makes sense for games tbh if someone from club is to put up the Saturday 575645th August v Eastwood roverz topic....

I understood what you meant first time round Mark!

Definitely for the future we should have a match thread, which can be set up a day or two before so we can speculate about what team Bakes and Unders will pick and then can be used to digest the performance afterwards!

The worst thing about this thread is somehow I missed the "t" out of site in the heading.

Thanks Martin, I was starting to think it was me! I’m still not sure some people have grasped what I mean by double posting so I think I’ll just let that one lie...it’s not a biggie, just a minor irritation of mine.

I don’t have a problem with transfer gossip and speculation, it’s what keeps us going as football fans over the summer. I must admit I’m on here more than I normally would at this time of year because what’s happening at the club is quite exciting and I’m really buzzing for the new season and looking forward to seeing the new team in action.

I think the problem has been when hearsay and gossip is presented as fact. I suspect the managers want to stop Slough fans announcing transfers moves that haven’t been finalised yet, rather than speculating about who may come and go. They seem keen to do things the right way with their old club, and perhaps some of the stuff on here around the time they were announced as our managers didn’t help...I dunno. One thing I know is that you will never stop the speculation at this time of year.

Don't want to throw a grenade at the too many thread item but I can see a problem.

I actually think sometimes it's better to spread the thread in different layers,as often when threads get very long it's harder to ascertain what page you want to read ie 1. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6....etc

Whereas if the subject is on various threads but under different names,it's easier for the person who has missed out on the start of the thread ie by being in the pub after game rather than at home on pc, to find what part of the subject they want to correspond about.

I do,however, like the idea of having a pre match single thread item and the a post match/aftermath single thread item.

Then the posts are all over the place and you can't find anything.
