I do understand why the club have removed the link. I ran the official site with Gary for about 10 years (until Tom & Matt took over from me).

Over those years I had some people come-up to me saying "so and so says that you put this in the website" when the truth is that it was an opinion on something posted by someone who has nothing to do with the club on the forum & not the website which had nothing to do with me!

Trouble is some people who go on the Internet are not totally "Internet savvy" so they read something and think the site and the forum is the same thing (even though there was a disclaimer saying otherwise!)

They then tell someone at a match about something they saw by someone posted on the forum who tells someone else, who then in turns tells someone else and a snowball effect is created!

Then before you know it the club are getting asked about something someone posted on the forum that has no relation to anything on the official site at all.

I think this forum is great but I do understand why the club have removed the link.

Gary I don't have any problem with anything you have said in your reply but still have concerns regarding what you haven't said The post about MyFC had begun to receive a number of replies none of which contained any adverse material that I could see yet it was removed I don't think its unreasonable to ask why it was removed and get an answer especially as it was confirmed as true subsequently As regards the reputation of the club most of the damage last season was done by employees and players ( Batemans rant against Guildford City and against one particular referee and David Deeneys attack on Barton and subsequent twitter attacks for which he received an FA fine spring to mind) just a few examples One good thing is that the new management have an excellent reputation both for their own behaviour and for the standards they expect and don't compromise on from their players I look forward to an attitudinal change next season that Im sure will happen.

The MyFC thread was a strange thread as it started as a heads up from a non-club related poster, had some discussion, a statement from the chairman, and then got removed.

For a forum that has no official links to the club, one thread has two interventions from the club!

And for those who think things have got worse on here, then they should take the rose tinted glasses off and remember the days when Liam was on here and Martyn Deaner was chairman!

An example of the type of post from the early days of this forum :

"It's about time we heard at least SOMETHING from Mr. Deaner and the illustrious Slough Borough Council as to the future of a new ground for the club.
Things really need to start happening NOW if Slough are to be playing at any sort of decent level in the years to come...
Is there anyone who knows where the site of this supposed new ground is going to be??
And why am I not surprised that we havent heard a peep out of Deaner or the Council yet (or am I completely in the dark here and missing something!) images/icons/blush.gif" border="0 Someone PLEASE put a firecracker under them and try to find out what the hell is happening!! And if Deaner says an announcement will be made in 2 weeks I think i'll explode!!
I am sick of Slough Town constantly getting the shaft from whoever happens to own it at the time and the totally useless Slough Borough Council.
Thank you and have a nice day as we say over here!!
Chris

How long would this post stay up nowadays?

As I see it now, the people who know IT and run this forum should now change this format to something like 'The Independent Rebels Fans Forum' with a large disclaimer notice at the beginning,to really distance the club from this forum.

Hayes and Yeading do something similar with their 'Botwell Warren' forum.

The club could then set up a very stilted version of the forum for the goody two shoes people who don't like rocking the boat and make it an official members only thing.Slough fans could join both,if willing to put their real name next to the post.

This would then be like the difference between a fanzine and the club programme. Both usually have worthy thought provoking articles but one tells it straight from the fans eyes view, where the other represents the club view.

To me, I would then join both.

Ah yes, the infamous Liam aka Barry Scott.

IMO got away with murder for years.

Didn't give a toss who he insulted and made Hotspur look like Mother Theresa.

Chris is correct, the Chris who is quoted I believe was an American gentleman, as back in the "good old days" the forum allowed non-registered posters on here and all sorts of topics were covered that would never be allowed now.

Also this lead to a wider range of individuals posting including the infamous Paul Janik.

the question now is when are the links from facebook and twitter going to be removed for the same thing both are just as vulnerable for the same abuse, as fans, sponsors, media, can have access to the site other than directly from the club site and the name slough town fc is on the header of each site what is the point , potententily sponsors are just going to think that we are operating in the dark ages and probably something that they do not want to be involved with, possibly an own goal i think.

Personally I miss the fire and passion that Liam brought to this forum (along with raising money on stupid walks to Worthing). Good job I've got his Twitter rants to keep me amused.

I wonder why such a supposedly avid Slough Town supporter hasn't supported Slough for years?

People move away from the area. Circumstances change. Why the attitude?

Perfectly understandable answer to my question.

Not sure why you think it's said with an attitude?

I didn't know Liam but I do know he was at most games if not all and I know he did some of the walks for charity notably the Worthing one.

When you see people every week at the games and then they suddenly stop coming you tend to wonder what made them stop coming.

Apart from the stuff Gary and Wayne have mentioned (which I agree with) I think there are a few little things that could improve the forum. It bugs me that whenever there is a match we have about 3 threads pop up for it, can we try and keep it to one? Maybe Gary or someone could pin a thread for each match a couple of days before it kicks off or something?

We currently have about 3 topics that basically cover transfer activity.

Some posters just need to think is it really necessary to start another topic for some stuff. Also, please try and avoid double, triple posting...if you want a constant platform for your opinions on the game so badly write something for the programme..

Generally speaking, apart from the bickering, much of the forum reads as white noise with very little interesting or witty content. There used to be some really good contributors here who don’t or hardly bother anymore and we need to try and woo those guys (or girls) back.

I have no problem with people posting more than once after games. Sometimes you may have forgotton to say something in your original post or you might be replying to another post.

Agree with the other bits.

You really need to read the POST again. SM is on about 3 items about the same thing in 3 different THREADS, not about more than 1 POST on each THREAD.,.,.,.,.he,he
