Can I ask Bakes or Unders has George Short actually signed (as per his Tweet) because he's still not appeared on our player list.

Also read it that Dan Read hasn't actually signed yet and he is seeing how he goes in pre season with the injury he sustained last season before signing?

RR you say "Also read it that Dan Read hasn't actually signed yet and he is seeing how he goes in pre season with the injury he sustained last season before signing

Management say :- "On top of this we will have Dan Read coming back pre season, again from Godalming Town. Dan is a 23 year old striker who can also play out wide. He had an unfortunate season last year, suffering a dislocated shoulder in our second game at Beaconsfield.

Sort of answers your Q ( well part of it )

Yes to both.... I have mentioned George in a previous post, great lad and a seriously good player.

Ready we would love nothing more to come back pre season and give us a headache, whatever happens pre season he is not someone that we would want to lose, as he is a goalscorer and still young.

He is the son of all time top goalscorer at Farnborough Town Simon Read, he just had by his standards an average year which he admits, however as I mentioned, he was our young player of the year winner and top goalscorer the year before, so perfectly capable of doing the job, but the injury early on just did him no favours, but in terms of injury he is fully fit now, and has already been attending pre pre season.

Is it going to be Goldaming plus a couple of token Slough players or have you hope of signing some new outside blood? After all both clubs failed to get promotion.

Yes Simon Read was a good striker for both Staines and Farnborough-never an all time non league great though ! eg:Garry Abbot, Noel Ashford Tony Horsman to name but 3.

Hmmmm I would have to disagree with you on Simon Hotspur, was top scorer in the Conference year on year in the 90's, I think he also scored 40 goals in the conference one year....

Not sure he played at Staines however, but was at Wycombe growing up... Having seen him and Abbo first hand for years, def one of the top non league strikers.....

Having said that I played with Abbo the year he got 40 plus for Aldershot, and he was still class at 36.

There will be a lot of Godalming, some Slough, and a few outside of both....

To be fair (you two spoil-sports   ;) )   I think we are all, just like our managers and players, champing at the bit and Buzzing for what promises to be an exciting season ahead.

I actually bow to our knowledge Hotspur, as just checked, and he started his career at Staines, but then went to Wycombe followed by Farnborough. But I would say 209 goals in 329 games for Farnborough, of which a vast amount of that was in the Conference I would still class him as one of the top non league strikers.... Apologies for going slightly off topic....

Question for you,Neil.

You mentioned in a previous posting that you and Jon were looking for a squad of about 18 players.

I noticed on the Non-League News website that Enfield  are putting a squad of 22 together,so they have competition in every position.

I was wondering given that the trials day is guessing at 30+ attending, whether you may consider starting the season with a few extra players and then release a few after an initial period.

Enfield's quality of player may be a lot lower than we're getting and so, obviously, you have to budget accordingly but my point is that wouldn't it be daft not to hang onto one or two,if they're as good as the 18 you've already got ie Dan Read.
