New Players

Recommended Posts

Plenty of interesting debate on here as always!

Bakes and I are very aware that we have only been able to deliver 'negative' news so far with players leaving, etc and appreciate that the supporters are keen to hear about new signings and also players from last season committing for the coming season.

I am pleased to say that early next week we expect to have some positive news to give you and will be able to provide a few names and we will be doing this via the official club site. It may seem like not much is happening but I can assure you it's quite opposite! We are currently working overtime to put together a really competitive squad.

With regards to players who have left it would not be right for us to go in to detail on the forum as to all the reasons why we have taken certain decisions.

We always try to be as open as possible but some things can and should only be known by the people who make those decisions (ie. the managers).

As people on here have alluded to there are a number of factors that are taken in to account when making decisions on players and it's not always just about ability. The great thing about football is that everyone has their own opinions on players and not all of the fans will agree with every one of our decisions but we are looking forward to being judged on what our team produces when the season starts in August as after all that's what really counts!

I'm on your side, the only wispa of interest at the moment is the chocolate kind!

What's your opinion on playing Sunday football by the players ?

We're strongly against it and wouldn't want any of our lads playing on a Sunday.

Believe that Sat/Tues/Thurs is enough football for anyone in a week if they want to be at the top of their game.

Back to previous posts, I cant really believe that Danny B running a marathon was any kind of factor in his being shown the door by the new management when I am pretty sure he wanted to stay

Pretty much guarantee that him running a marathon was nothing to do with him leaving.

I can only go by what Danny's tweeted himself and money seems to be one of the factors in the decision.

Thanks Unders.

Look forward to the news on incoming players. It'll make the supporters on here who can't for some good news happy

On the flip side for Danny, I'd have said all that training made him much fitter through the course of the season and only the games after the marathon were missed due to injury. Looked hungrier to chase things down, battled past big centre backs quite often and most importantly scored a lot of goals. That said, I totally respect the decisions of the new management and will fully support them, on and off the pitch, taking this club forwards. Exciting season ahead!

Totally agree Gary, personally thought Danny Burnell's cracking start to the season was in large part due to his greater fitness as a direct result of marathon training.

I also think the turning point in Dan's season was the games against Mansfield. He had got used to bossing and bullying defenders and then came up against the giant Exodus Geohagen. He got nothing from him in two games and it seemed to dent his confidence slightly.

The timing of the marathon wouldn't  have been great had the season been going to the wire but ironically he missed games after we were out of it and whilst we were on a winning run.

Still the decision has been made, I wished Dan all the best and now look forward to supporting whoever comes in to replace him.

I wouldn't of said no to Chris Dillon, quality player.

Under SB If were in the premier div I think we would possibly have signed Chris Dillon, Drew Roberts and Steve Wales a while ago.

RR,it's a shame we will never know.

Wouldn't have thought Steve Wales would be easily prised away from Chesham. It's no co-incidence that last season when Wales got injured and was out for a number of games, that Chesham then went on a losing run. When Steve Wales got fit they were back winning again.

Chesham are well-organised team but without Steve Wales controlling their midfield, they're like the clock without the big hand!

Looking forward to the player announcement next week.A bit of news is better than none.I'm just glad I've got England and the British Lions[rugby] to follow this summer,as spring/summer are usually dull in sporting terms and cricket bores the hell out of me.Roll on pre-season...........rather exciting or what! lol!

I feel a bit bad for Danny on this as I do believe was gutted about leaving and  I think there were much bigger issues last season than Danny running the marathon !

The marathon for Danny was important as I believe it was to raise money for a charity that looked after someone he thought the world of  and I think that  is something he should be very proud of.  We all have to miss games for one thing or another i.e. weddings, christenings and yes even holidays in some of our cases !

Gary, I never thought of it like that but your right they are suspenders, love it.

George Short announced yesterday that he is leaving Godalming for a new challenge and although he hasn't said where that challenge lies twitter feeds from his friends strongly suggest that he is a new Rebel anyone else heard anything or want to comment?

We'll have to differ on this,Mark44.

I believe if you're getting paid by a club, you should show your loyalty and integrity by focussing your efforts for the interests of those paying you.Not risking injury and then under performing for your club due to tiredness, etc.

Too many players of today couldn't careless about their parent club and lack responsibilty.

Then the club should show their loyalty and responsibility and put them on contract. No problems then as they cannot play Sundays.

As Unders has posted, early next week we will be given names of the players who are joining us, until then it's pure speculation.

No need for a contract, just give the players a choice, get paid to play at a much higher standard of football on a Saturday or play for nothing on a Sunday morning, not both.

If he figures in their plans for next season (as they have intimated) then the new management really need to reiterate that to Ed Smith asap  He is certainly not saying he has made his mind up yet.

Probably just keeping stum until things are announced officially next week.

Okay I agree with that, but it still leaves it open for them to play Sundays. Once the season has started and the best player is playing on a Sunday the club has to go with it, fine him or kick him out. That will not happen unless its a fringe player. The only way to stop it is a contract.
