New Players

Recommended Posts

I think it's been said before, Deeney was released for purely financial reasons. Not sure how much Danny Burnell was on, but maybe it was similar reasons and Jon and Neil were confident he and others could be replaced for less money.

I would take an educated guess that Dave Deeney and Danny Burnell were the two highest paid players at Slough after the departure of Nathan Bowden-Hasse.

Good post Irishadrian. Don't want to dig him out, but was David Deeney actually that good?! Went missing in alot of the games I watched.

In the big games Dave Deeney IMO showed us that he was a good player but as you say did tend to disappear in a lot of the so called smaller games.

The new management saw Slough play a number of times last season and will have taken notice of the slackers and the ill disciplined As far as David Deeney is concerned he has recently tweeted that he plays football to earn as much money as possible in the most convenient way possible He has also boasted about faking holidays to avoid pre season training since that doesn't pay He is currently claiming to have had 3 offers so far that aren't worth him giving up his time for What an appaling attitude and certainly not what the Rebels or the new management want. Danny Burnell is a puzzle to me only 6 league goals in the last 20 or so league games after such a good start I believe the new management will have their sights set on players who consistently deliver Lets all look forward to seeing who the new squad contains.

Spot on,Irishadrian.

Danny Burnell is a proven goalscorer and nobody doubts his ability at this level of Non-League.

What did suck, though, is his loyalty to his manager and to the club,at the crucial part of the season, when he turned out for a Sunday morning team several times and also took part in his charity marathon,a noble cause and a worthwhile pursuit, but did he have to undertake it at the crux of our season?

He is also well known for being a moaner and a bane to referees, and many of his managers.

As for Dave Deeney,he is a poseur. He talks a better game than he delivers. To be fair to him,he was carrying an injury last season and fronted up in the bigger games but just wasn't consistent enough.

What is a shame with him going,is the inevitable event of his brother leaving, too.

Ashley started the season poorly but got better as the season progressed and in our latter games was one of Slough's better players. It is a pity he had to leave,as he will only get better and has plenty of years ahead of him.

Bit harsh IMO 3spirit. Many players play Sunday football too. Don't think burnham have a problem with Ryan bird doing it and also playing a couple of nights at Powerleague too

We'll have to differ on this,Mark44.

I believe if you're getting paid by a club, you should show your loyalty and integrity by focussing your efforts for the interests of those paying you.Not risking injury and then under performing for your club due to tiredness, etc.

Too many players of today couldn't careless about their parent club and lack responsibilty.

I've been sitting back recently reading the threads and fans comments on DD. I thought I was alone in thinking he went missing in games far too often.

I also agree he talked a good game, but disagreed with some of his Twitter posts / thoughts relating to football and his 9-5 job. If I was a parent reading some of the comments, I wouldnt be happy.

Anyone deserves to be our highest paid player, I'd say Brownie and Wooz (both for me consistent and give it their all). Just my opinion...

3spirit - It's a bit harsh to say that he shouldn't have run his marathon at the end of the season. Marathons are generally run in the spring so there isn't much option in that. Even if he had run a late spring marathon he would still have been doing his higher mileage training during the season. Having run one myself the risk of injury is very high but it's more than outweighed by the glory of finishing and raising a lot for charity. It's one of those things that people do anyway regardless of their other commitments - thousands of parents and other people with important jobs run marathons, are you saying they shouldn't either? Danny is a part time footballer so he can have an active lifestyle outside of the club he is playing for.

Plus I would imagine that this was planned well in advance with the manager. As for the Sunday football, a lot of others probably do the same because they love the game.

A Rebel and a Saint,I'm not knocking Danny Burnell's endeavours in giving to charity. My view is just that surely he could have took part in something less arduous or taken part earlier or later than he did do,in running a marathon.

Being that he was one of the most vital cogs in our team, this undertaking he took upon, dried up his goals in latter part of the season-FACT.And I don't suppose playing Sunday football helped either.

I accept that players have an active lifestyle outside of the club and there's little the club can do about it.However, the personal integrity of many[but not all, thank goodness!] of today's generation of non-league players are questionable.Loyalty seems to be a thing of the past,as many players do not seem to have a clue about it!

This I find depressing in the non-league football scene of today.

Have to agree with 3spirit.

If your getting paid to play football on a Saturday then the manager has every right to stop you playing on Sunday. What's worse for a manager than a player coming into training on a Tuesday and saying he's picked up an injury on the Sunday playing in a mickey mouse league.

On the point of Ryan Bird, well all I can say is that he rules the roost   B)   at Burnham.

All I can say about Danny Burnell running the marathon is that it was for a great cause but IMO, as I've stated before, it did affect his form as the stats suggest.

So go back 30/40 years. How many non league players also played cricket?

Mark, what are odds in getting injured playing cricket compared to football?

Also most of the time your standing about or having tea and cakes   :)

Changing the subject, just read the Chesham website,it appears in Andy Leese's update, that they've signed Drew Roberts and Chris Dillon from Arlesley.

Good job Steve Bateman isn't still with us,as Chris Dillon was a well known target of his.

Andy Leese mentions another one of his striker's coming back from injury,a Inih Effong but doesn't mention Michael Chennells. He did finish the season with Chesham, didn't he?

I wonder what club he will end up at this coming season? Burnham may be interested if he's available.

I wouldn't of said no to Chris Dillon, quality player.

Under SB If were in the premier div I think we would possibly have signed Chris Dillon, Drew Roberts and Steve Wales a while ago.

Plenty of interesting debate on here as always!

Bakes and I are very aware that we have only been able to deliver 'negative' news so far with players leaving, etc and appreciate that the supporters are keen to hear about new signings and also players from last season committing for the coming season.

I am pleased to say that early next week we expect to have some positive news to give you and will be able to provide a few names and we will be doing this via the official club site. It may seem like not much is happening but I can assure you it's quite opposite! We are currently working overtime to put together a really competitive squad.

With regards to players who have left it would not be right for us to go in to detail on the forum as to all the reasons why we have taken certain decisions.

We always try to be as open as possible but some things can and should only be known by the people who make those decisions (ie. the managers).

As people on here have alluded to there are a number of factors that are taken in to account when making decisions on players and it's not always just about ability. The great thing about football is that everyone has their own opinions on players and not all of the fans will agree with every one of our decisions but we are looking forward to being judged on what our team produces when the season starts in August as after all that's what really counts!
