New Players

Recommended Posts

Jon Underwood is quoted in the local papers as saying there will probably only be about 8 players from last years squad at pre season training provided there are no further players dropping out before pre season starts.

He also says he expects between 24/26 players attending pre season training with the final squad number being reduced to 18.

That's a pretty impressive jump, by anyones standards, in the number of new players showing an interest in being part of the Slough squad for next season.

Can't wait to see the names and quality of the players that Bakes and Unders have recruited.

Reading Rebel, there might be more than 8 Slough players, as there was at least another 5 to be contacted.

As for the quality of the player, that is debatable considering that the money on offer this season is going to be less than last season.

However, what should be better this forthcoming season is that we get value for money players who give 100% rather than the overpaid 'superstars' of non-league football, who talk up their performances on Twitter, when in reality the fans only see sporadic glimpses of talent in a few games, when the rest of the time they are just distinctly average !

We will just have to wait and see, what materialises by this incoming bunch to witness if the above statements are true.

I hope in the next week or two, that Neil and Jon,announce two or three of their definite signings from Goldalming or other clubs, like Steve Bateman did when he first arrived at the club.Think they was Robbie Kean,Chris Herron and Gary Sippetts back then,if memory serves me right?

As this cloak and mirrors stuff is so tedious.

3spirit, the last update was that the only person they have not been able to contact was Ryan O'Toole.

I have seen nothing reported saying that the budget will be less for next season.

Steve Easterbrook has said they have worked out an affordable budget for the managers to work with.

Dave Deeney has said on Twitter that he was told that they could get a few players in for the sort of money he was on, still doesn't mean the budget is less, could just mean the management think they can get players in who are just as good for less money which would mean more money to spread throughout the squad with no large disparities for so called superstars.

I see no reason why they won't announce the players recruited from Godalming because it's common knowledge of the events that have happened at Godalming.

Hello RR

I know this time of year is the silly season as everybody winds down for the summer break and posts to put on the messageboard quiet down.

But I'ts quite funny that you had a go at me last week for saying that in the NLP it said Ed Smith was committed to Slough for next season and you said it was paper talk and everybody would of bought the paper and read what it said I bet that might be 10.

Yet you are saying the same thing about players who might be going staying and coming like the rest of us just guessing.

Have agood one and see you soon.

RebelDelaney,

Not sure I'm understanding what you mean about the NLP and Ed Smith. I'll try and find the post to see if I can fathom it out.

As far as players leaving, I'm only quoting what Bakes or Unders has put on this forum or in the papers so it must be fact not guess work.

I don't think I've mentioned any names as far as players coming to the club.

Have a good one too and see you at the friendlies.

RebelDelaney,

Just found the post you're on about.

I can assure you that I was not having a go at you.

My reply was not anything to do with Ed Smith being committed to Slough, only about the information on the new ground still high on the agenda being in a national paper.

Hi Graham, you are right, we are going to announce more at the fans forum, which was originally going to be the night before our first friendly, however we are looking to bring that forward now, to do something in the next couple of weeks. (we will try and get a date in the diary in the next few days)

In terms of player coming and going, we will name some players that we are bringing in at the fans forum, the biggest problem, is no player will be on contract, so there is no point shouting from the rooftops, until they are at the club, signed on southern league forms and playing....

What I can tell you is we have 5 attacking players who have verbally committed to next year, and between them they scored 110 goals last season at this level.

We don't mean to be cloak and daggers, but the summer is a very funny time, and we don't want to shout that we have signed player a and player b only for him to end up potentially somewhere else pre season.

During the season we will give you regular updates etc, however at this current time, we will be slightly quieter, but don't think that just because you are not getting loads of info, nothing is happening, as I can assure you that it is...

As soon as we have the fans forum date I will let you know so that you can all book it in.

Cheers

Bakes

i think to some extent the fact that you as bosses are very open maybe some fans have gone from 1 extreme to another and expecting way too much info at a time where as you say no player is signed 100% unless on contract at this stage of the year.

we get the same discussion every year and the same answer about rightly keeping transfers hidden to stop outcry if a player says they are joining then go elsewhere before preseason has even begun

the fact people are anxiously waiting for news at least shows that the anticipation for the season ahead is big. counting down the days till the new regime can begin properly on the field

I actually think the opposite.

In the past seasons I think we have asked a lot more questions, mainly because we have never really got any replies from our manager and some supporters frustration tended to boil over at the lack of news.

Now that Bakes and Unders are being open with supporters and nipping things in the bud, so to speak, I personally am happy to wait (eagerly I must say :) ) for player arrivals to be announced.

As eager as we are to know who will be signing, I'd much rather know when it's concrete. We've been burned before (Errol Telemaque and Jon Stevenson spring to mind) and as much as I trust Jon and Neil, the non-league footballer is a different breed of animal entirely, especially when you factor in possibly working with a smaller budget. Verbal is all well and good until an extra forty quid elsewhere comes calling.

It's never concrete.

Even when a player signs and gets registered to play for a club, players have still been known to change their minds, all it takes is for another club to use the seven day approach rule.

All I will say on the matter is, if a player either commits himself verbally to a club or actually signs and then for whatever reason changes his mind, do we really want that player at our club?

I personally only want players who want to play for Slough.

Just to thank Neil Baker for his specific response to my post on here and I am sure we all look forward to that meeting soon. I do wonder why a prolific scorer like Danny Burnell was released and hope that will get an answer also.........notwithstanding whoever may be coming in.

I think we all must have wondered why a goal scorer like Danny Burnell and a good player like Dave Deeney were released.

Sometimes these decisions are made for more reasons than ability alone.

I think it's been said before, Deeney was released for purely financial reasons. Not sure how much Danny Burnell was on, but maybe it was similar reasons and Jon and Neil were confident he and others could be replaced for less money.

The new management saw Slough play a number of times last season and will have taken notice of the slackers and the ill disciplined As far as David Deeney is concerned he has recently tweeted that he plays football to earn as much money as possible in the most convenient way possible He has also boasted about faking holidays to avoid pre season training since that doesn't pay He is currently claiming to have had 3 offers so far that aren't worth him giving up his time for What an appaling attitude and certainly not what the Rebels or the new management want. Danny Burnell is a puzzle to me only 6 league goals in the last 20 or so league games after such a good start I believe the new management will have their sights set on players who consistently deliver Lets all look forward to seeing who the new squad contains.
