Police to fine middle lane road hoggers!!

Recommended Posts

About time!

I hate people who simply can't drive.

Can we also fine those idiots on motorbikes who break the law and lorries who overtake at 1mph more than the other lorry and cause long delays.

What annoys you on our roads?

-------------------------------

The Department of Transport has not yet released official guidance on which types of driving will attract fines. But police are expected to focus on situations involving slightly aggressive and inconsiderate driving, such as:

Driving too close to the vehicle in front

Failing to give way at a junction (not requiring evasive action by another driver)

Overtaking and pushing into a queue of traffic

Being in the wrong lane and pushing into a queue on a roundabout

Lane discipline, eg needlessly hogging the middle or outside lanes

Inappropriate speed

Wheel-spins, handbrake turns and other careless manoeuvres

Experience has taught me that BMW, 4x4 and tipper drivers can usually be relied on to do something stupid. Black cab drivers in the city will always have plenty of witnesses (other black cab drivers) proclaiming their innocence in an accident. Abroad tuk-tuk drivers in Bangkok must be the most dangerous, and taxi drivers in Portugal not much better.

I 'm told by a contact 'In-The-Know'  that fines will be fixed penalty at £100.  Points on the licence yet to be decided.

Like RalphC, I say 'About Time Too' !!

Whilst I totally agree with it how will it be measured......

For example, if you overtake a lorry at 70mph in the middle lane and there is one 200 yards in front of you do you.....

A) Pull into the inside lane and then run the risk of being boxed in and have to reduce to 50 MPH then having to try and pull back out with cars approaching at speed.

B) Stick to a contsant speed to overtake the second lorry in the middle lane.

I completely get it as there are some stupid people on the roads who sit in the middle lane going 60 when they are not gaining on inside lane traffic or its clear.........On the flip side it is at teh discretion of the Police as I understand and where do they draw the line. i.e. what is considered hogging the middle lane

I totally agree, and yes definitely about time as well!

Also, those who disobey the 'keep two chevrons apart' rule as well should have their behinds spanked.

You would stay out to overtake the second lorry.

I would also like to see the following fined.....

1) not signalling at junctions/roundabouts - I am not a mind reader!

2)  Bikers who break the law by speeding and undercutting

3) Lorries who overtake other lorries at 1mph more than the one they are passing, often on a dual carriageway. Thinking of M11/A14 here.

But what I would like to see allowed is...

Undertaking in certain instances...

1) if someone is hogging the middle lane, it is safer for me to undertake than to move to the third lane and then back to the inside lane. This is currently illegal, despite being more logical and I would say safer.

2) if I am exiting the motorway (thinking of one junction on M25) where the inside lane changes to the offslip in a mile, but all the drivers move to the middle lane early, I should be able to pass them all on the inside. Appreciate I can once the lane markings change, but prior to that it is safer to undertake than to move to lane 3 then try and move over to lane 1/offslip in a mile time.

3) Allow drivers to turn left on a red light, as is the norm in the USA. Would help with the flow of traffic in towns etc. Of course certain junctions with large numbers of pedestrians should be blocked.

The Tesco ones are now restricted to 50 mph, which must be a sod for any poor motorist stuck behind them on a hill!

Ralph, with regards to lorries, yes it is irritating on also  a two lane motorway but they have speed restrictions and depending on weight of load some can overtake slowly on a hill, others very slowly

So they should not overtake then. Simple.

Mind you I also hate lorries for tail-gating and also for blocking both lanes approaching roadworks and therefore stopping cars from correctly and legally using the outside lane up to the cones.

Why do all these idiots all sit in one lane???  It is much quicker and easier to merge one by one at the cones. The queue would be shorter.

Near me we have a section that goes from two lanes to one and everyone merges in turn and it works well. People get through quickly. Why can't people adopt the same mentality at roadworks.

argh!!!!

You can't stop a lorry overtaking if it can get past though.

They did trial it in parts of the M11 and it did work but on the whole stretch it would mean that companies could miss deadlines,it's that cut throat a business nowadays which is why many tailgate which is stupid as a sudden break and the driver behind is dead if there's a collision

Just because it is business, does not mean that they should hold up other motorists by doing it.

What do they gain? a minute on their entire journey?

I have no issue in giving them the finger and blasting my horn when I get passed. Makes little difference to them, but alleviates my frustration LOL

EU is quite right.

Route schedulers working for the big transport companies often have no idea when they are booking delivery slots for their drivers.

You've only got to watch the Stobarts TV programme to see the problems these drivers are sometimes faced with..

Okay, but why not wait until the road levels out or why doesn't the lorry being overtaken slow down a bit?

No - the selfish idiots opt to overtake on a hill.

That is poor driving and a selfish behaviour.

I hate lorry drivers. Almost as bad a cabs and chauffers' doing airport runs!
