Players starting to depart

Even though I knew this sort of thing would happen cant help feeling a bit jaded this morning, players leaving of their own accord is one thing but when they would probably like to stay is a bit harder to take.

Thanks to all of you for playing for us, and good luck, not only will I miss you but also your families especially Danny's grandad and Teresa and Steve Murphy who became good friends and hardly missed a game.

On a lighter note Mark,  it would be a very brave man who got rid of super Kev one of the nicest blokes on this planet.

Just hope they dont decide they need a new club shop manager, she's brilliant !!!

Do we know which players are leaving on their own accord and those who the new management have let go?

Regarding Warro, great keeper, sad to see him go, but like I said before, with his outside football commitments, having a goalie who cant play midweeks is not ideal, so maybe for the best.

With Dave, again good player, but maybe too outspoken on Twitter, teams already too pumped up when Slough come to Town, they dont need anymore ammunition.

Wish them both (and Ash / Danny) the best in future careers.

Just when Jacko "might" have been thinking of hanging up his gloves it would appear he has been given a new lease of life by the new management. Always great to have a real "Slough" man in the side.

As for your job Sue I think you are safe from the cull. Where else would they find a Cheryl Cole lookalike to draw the punters in. Also if they want to get some idea of the vastness of your shop tell them to go and have a look at Royston FC (sorry Jez).

This happens with all new managers at this kind of level. When the great Tommy Lawrence took over Slough he came with some  great players, and when he left most of them did too.One would assume that  these new managers have spoken to the players and also probably have better ones coming in-lets hope so !!!!

Unless the players say themselves I doubt if we'll ever know the answer.

Players always leave of their own free will or get pushed out by new management teams. Slough wasn't good enough to get promoted or make the play-offs,so something has to be changed. All five of the players so far mentioned as leaving, will do a good job in another team at our level and possibly one above.

Danny Murphy is the one player out of the five going, that I would have kept. Didn't have the best of season's last season but a player who has plenty of stamina/engine to burn and is no mug on the left side of defence or as a wing back.

Perhaps Ryan Lake,ex Hampton and Godalming player is being lined up as replacement. We shall see.

The comments from the new management team also place great emphasis on ATTITUDE, as well as ability.  That may have been a factor in some of the decision making.  Good players are only any good if they are on the pitch, not suspended.  Discipline applies off the pitch too, twitter wars with fans from rival clubs are not a good advert for the team.

I see Swifty has just Tweeted that he hopes to be part of the new regime if he can get his knee sorted.

From the outside looking in it seems to me that only certain players have had the phone call.

I can think of a couple of reasons why that may be.

No.

Also, they are only the players who have announced it on Twitter.

They have been removed from the squad list on official site. That is pretty much confirmed by the club.

Afternoon everyone, as Bakes said the other day thanks for all the supportive messages and the welcome we've received so far.

Lots of rumours flying around as always and I thought it would make sense to come on here and clear a few up, although as I'm sure you can appreciate we can't tell you everything and won't be able to answer every question!

On Thursday night we managed to speak to the majority of last season's squad. A couple are on holiday however and in one case we just can't get through on the number that we have.

We managed to see around 10 of the Slough games last season so had a pretty good knowledge of the squad and based on this, and in the knowledge that we have certain players in mind to bring in to the club, we chose to tell some of these lads that they weren't in our plans for next season. This is not a personal thing, it's just what happens in football and something we had to do straight away to give those players a chance to fix themselves up with a new club.

As it stands, the players who have left are James Warrington (a decision he made before we were appointed)), Ash Deeney, David Deeney, Dan Burnell, Danny Murphy and Joe Chandiram.

Of the remainder, there are around 8 players who have indicated they would be willing to attend pre-season and fight for a place in the squad, I would say 3 who are having a think about things and who we will talk further to and another couple who we haven't managed to speak to yet including Dave Woozley who is on holiday.

At this stage of the summer nothing is definite and some of those lads may change their mind or get a better offer elsewhere so it would be unfair for me to say player X or player Y is on board and committed as this may change.

We will give a further update before pre-season training starts on July 2nd and hopefully a good number of you will attend the fans forum where we will be more than happy to answer further questions.

Our job as managers of Slough is to put together the most competitive squad possible on the budget we have been given and all I can say is we are extremely positive that we will be in a very strong position come the start of the season and we can't wait to get started!
