michael
Good to read on the official site that Margate have been provided with a grant to develop further the youth sides and establish deeper roots within the community. Normally-a lot of fluffy words/tosh written about this community stuff simply to win favour, when in reality next to nothing is done-but it does seem that Margate are the' real deal' and genuinely working with and within the community (whatever a community is ). I read elsewhere that Maidstone have won the football federations national community club of the year award-and I guess need to be congratulated accordingly. I wonder what SPECIFICALLY they have done to achieve this award, and why they deserve it over and above Margate or any other club-possibly lessons to be learned ? what do they do in the community that is more and better than margate do ? There again-the cynical/bitter/twisted/jealous side of me asks have they won it on doing real stuff within the 'community'-or have they won it on the back of publicity and being higher profile simply related to their 3G pitch? Having been 'out of' the community for 20 years-to be regarded as the best 'community club in the country (not county) within 12 months is one heck of an achievement!! Maybe the interpretation of what constitutes work within the community is open to debate ? Most improved community club-maybe, but i'm not sure that getting crowds of 2000,installing a 3G pitch (every club should have one imo)and helping local publicans increase their profits is really what a community club is all about.? how dare I question it ?
