Thornsy's Email Response

Recommended Posts

Thornsy's having trouble logging on to the boards this afternoon, but he's asked me to publish the email he sent to John Gibson in reply to the Formal Notification of his ban...

Dear Mr Gibson

I read with some confusion this e-mail that I’ve had sent to me, do

we live under military rule now where a man can be tried and found

guilty without the accused being allowed to put his side of the story

over.

I would be happy to hear the ramblings of the multitude of witnesses

involved as just from the people that this mail was sent it (i.e. me,

Paul Jones and Tony Costello) there is some obvious floors in it,

namely other people involved in the incident, whose names I am not

prepared to admit, who seem to of been excluded from this ban.

The most obvious floor however being that anyone actually there would of

realised that the St.Albans supporters were actually blameless, if we

were to blame so much then why did somebody from Billericay e-mail me

last week looking to keep the incident under wraps as they were very

concerned with the image of his club (I will of course forward this

mail to you and my response to it).

However once again I feel like a witch hunt is being pursued in my

good name and my associates, this is the latest incident where the

club has gone in two-footed without actually taking the time out to

speak to the supporters, for who morale is at an all time low.

Firstly we had the incident at Stockport which was promised a full

investigation, after several witnesses came forward to protest our

innocence I suggest the outcome was not of satisfaction to the club

namely we were cleared of blame.

Then we had the slander in the local press about abusive messages

left on the Aldershot message board, a claim which I believe were

later found be of been untrue as the real people behind them were in

fact 12yr old children who were later interviewed by the police, once

again no apology was forthcoming.

Into March when you implied in your programme notes that I had stolen

your fire extinguisher, a claim which you later backed up with me in

person, I believe once again the actual culprit came forward and

admitted it, once again no apology.

Even this season started with an attack on me virtually intimidating

cheerleaders at Carshalton, as you made your guilty verdict from the

stand you obviously didn't see fit to actually speak to the

cheerleaders and the parents who were there, had you of done this a

completely different verdict may of been reached.

I will not take this ban lying down; I have been attending this club

home and away now for 12 seasons and feel that I have been victimised

by yourself and the board. The good name of St.Albans City that you

speak so highly about has been gained over the years from the support

that follows it.

We got voted best away fans in non-league football on a national website, surly not possible for a club with so many hooligan fans, maybe if you took the time to talk to your and other supporters you'll realise that far from the image we seem to have in your eyes we actually are liked by other clubs and have actually socialised with supporters from other clubs before, during and after games.

If you feel that the supporters that just stand in silence and abuse the keeper with much more severity than the comment that maybe trigged the events at Billericay are the real supporters and win us awards and give us our good name then sadly you are more deluded than I thought.

I will be seeking advice, both legally and from the FA, I may be

wrong but I would of thought that you have give a reason for banning

somebody from your ground.

I do hope you see fit to reply to this e-mail with your evidence from

last week, by just not replying will not mean we won't go away, this

club has been a huge part of my life for 12 seasons and I won't allow

it to go without a fight (not literally obviously). If you take the

time out I'm sure you'll realise that we are all quite reasonable

adults.

I notice you comment that e-mail is the only form of communication,

not so, my phone number is 07XXX XXXXXX and would welcome a chat.

Regards

Colin Toms

On the question of a club banning people without giving a reason, I do beleive just like a pub landlord can ban you from his pub so a Chairman can ban you from his football ground.

Many year ago a director at Enfield banned my brother from Southbury Road, he received no letter or email, only an escort from the ground by two coppers when he next turned up to a game.

some 5 years later when Tony Laz took over my brother was allowed to return to the ground.

So good luck lets hope it does not take you that long to return.
