One name stands out to me to take Slough to the next level, as a non slough fan and just a supporter of non league football... The.ex Beaconsfield Sycob manager Byron Walton worked wonders with Beaconsfield.

He took them from a relegation threatened club to the brink of promotion within one season and has good experience with other clubs like Windsor etc.

Also if you could afford Terry Brown get him but I doubt he would drop to this level after being in the conference and league 2.

Good luck who ever you choose to take the club forward and hope you get back to where you want to be

Byron Walton is the obvious choice to manage Slough Town at this time, he would get them out of this league.

Where is Byron Walton now?

I think it was due to work commitments that he resigned in the first place, so what has changed?

Believe  me, we dont wont Keith Scott. I have inside knowledge of what went on at Windsor and I doubt very much

if he would fit into our financial model.

Keith Scott would fit into our financial model because he would be given an affordable budget to work with and not a penny more unless we get further funds from cup runs.

First of all i'd like to thank Bates(and Fred) we have had some great times under him.  I'll always remember the last day at Romulus (when I was at SYCOB feeding the news back to Gary) commentating on what was happening with Sutton Coldfield as we awaited the final whistle. The Hitchin Town semi-final and  the FA Cup ties against Mansfield.  All wonderful occasions.

In terms of managers   I actually agree that there's no harm in talking to Terry Brown.  Yes, it's unlikely, but there's no harm in talking to him.  Plus, we don't know his current circumstances.  He may be looking for a part-time club.

Other names i'd like to see considered are Steve Cordery, Garry Haylock and David Howell.  I think a manager with contacts and experience of a higher league is needed for the next manager IMO.

I don't think we should go down the ex-player route again as well -  unless we do look towards Terry Brown who has a wealth of experience and contacts.

First of all can I add my voice to the vast majority and publicly thank Steve for all his tireless efforts, openness and passion shown for out little club. You really have provided us with some great memories. That said unfortunately, when it comes to gaining the success that everyone so badly craves, while perenially  always in the mix, for many reasons, it's not happened and the time is surely right to bring in new ideas, fresh faces, in short a change was inevitable

As for who we appoint, people are mentioning bringing back some old boys to take over. No, no, no, no, no! All over NL football, and indeed beyond, such appointments nearly always end in tears and we have endured enough of those these past 4,5 years

Hitchin the club you mentioned, have done exactly that for several seasons, Darren Hay, Charlie Williams to name but a couple of recent ones, and they haven't really learned their lessons have they, because again it most certainly hasn't worked. In fact it has previously cost them one relegation and If it wasn't for Frendo's goals this season, it could easily have been two.

Even though Mark has played shitloads of games for them and Adam Parker remains one of the most accomplished and stylish players I have ever seen at Hitichins level, ex players, be they club legends or otherwise very rarely work, and after seasons of near misses we need someone who can work within a tight(ish) fiscal mandate, has fresh ideas, can help galvanise the club, both on and importantly off the pitch, ideally one who lives reasonably local and importantly one who knows a lot of players, and I mentioned this name a couple of weeks ago, and only bring it up again as it is my understanding he has only yesterday turned down the Arlsey job and that's Mark Eaton, who I guarantee, along with many others will be sending in an application.

Rejecting Arlseys offer and the timing of it, may be purely coincidental and as such I personally read nothing more into it than that, but is there ever any smoke without fire?

I like to think I know my NL football, and sure we would all like to see Terry Brown or similar, but get real chaps, it just isn't going to happen and while not being foolish or naive enough to say he should or will get the job if he were, with his experience at Aylesbury, Hemel last year and Arsley this season, he would be fine by me, as in my opinion he ticks many boxes, and 'appears' to be exactly 'the type' of person we need, not to stabilise, we don't need stability, we have that, but far more pressing to move us forward on the rock solid foundations Steve has undisputedly laid

Watch this space I guess

Couple of thoughts.

How do you know/guarantee that Mark Eaton will be applying for the vacant position?

My limited knowledge of Mark Eaton is that he did a reasonable job at Aylesbury on a small budget and that he didn't last long at Hemel, I think, down to poor results.

David Howell's a good shout,Chris. Forgot about him.He did well with Harrow and at St Albans.

Do you remember he came to Slough on loan from Barnet, for a couple of big games in Alan Davies's reign.

Excellent centre half in his day.

What about Neil Baker, Manager of Godalming.

Done an excellent job on a relatively small budget.

He's often on this forum,so maybe he would be interested in the Slough job.

One name that I would like to come to the club is Maidenhead's Johnson Hippolyte. Someone who's done it at most levels up to step 2.Although unlikely to join as he is contracted until May next year.

Johnson Hippolyte, the player, I rated highly. Johnstone Hippolyte, the manager, has failed to convince me,although

I have the utmost respect for him as a bloke.

Like Steve Bateman, Johnson Hippolyte is one of those likeable personalities and has good man management skills but I

think currently Slough need someone not afraid to ruffle a few feathers to achieve our ultimate goal of promotion.

I'm not usually for these hard nosed manager types but Slough's current situation seems to be demanding it,as we

have failed over the last 3 seasons with the nicey nice, softly approach.

I would like to see a hard but fair manager appointed, together with an assistant manager[possible respected player/ex

player] and also a knowledgeable coach who has experience with working through age ranges.

Something like a Keith Scott/Dave Woozley/Naz Bashir combination. Especially now we have an academy, reserve teams

and youth teams. This would be cost effective in the long term,as we could start developing our own players.
