not sure how i feel about this really. i can understand the decision for sure but wouldn't have been all that angered had he been given another crack at it

risk either way so lets hope the chairman can find who he believes to be the best candidate and that man can build a competitive team who can contest promotion

good luck to Bateman whatever he ends up doing next

Personally, after the disappointments of the league campaign last year, I think it is the right move. Wish Steve all the best for the future, was a pleasure to work alongside him in my time as secretary and I'm sure he'll find himself at another club soon enough.

Should be an interesting few weeks now with applications coming into the club for what should be, still, a prestigious position, albeit a very challenging one with the expectations of immediate success from the supporters.

Mark, we'll never know what would have happened. The club have made a decision and will now have the unenviable task of getting the next appointment right to get us up to that next level which we've been striving to do in the last four seasons. It's done, all the best to Bates and Fred and let's get behind the new management team when they are appointed.

All the best to Steve (and Fred), the team is certainly in a much better place than when he took over. I would occasionally have a chat with Steve after the games and found him very approachable, intelligent and articulate. No one wanted to get Slough up more than him.

I really thought he would do that this year so to finish outside the play-offs behind the likes of Burnham and Beaconsfield was very disappointing and I can't say I'm surprised by this outcome. I'm very interested to see what direction we go in now as I'm expecting a pretty large turnaround in playing staff now. I just hope whoever gets the job is afforded some time and patience by the support to rebuild the team.

Thank you Steve.  I don't think we can thank you enough for the stability you have bought to the club during your time as manager, who knows what would have happened otherwise.  Nor can most of us apperciate how much time you have put into the club.  There have been so many highs that were so amazing that will stay with me forever.  While you didn't manage to get that elusive promotion, the club is certainly in a better place.

Thanks also to Fred for his work during his time with us.

All the best to both of you for the future.

It will certainly be interesting to see who will come in, and also which players will stay with the club under the new manager.

From the outside looking in, I'd say Keith Scott will be the front runner. I heard he was at several games towards the end of last season and you have half his team already there. Be interesting to see if a done deal or you open up to applications. There's some good managers out there.

He was quoted in the papers as saying quite a few would be going if he stayed anyway.  Just hope we take some time to get the right person, some of the so called big names (ex Windsor) quoted on here fill me with dread.  We need to keep our integrity, and not go for boom followed by bust.  I have faith in Mr Easterbrook though.

I believe the future will be determined by the size of next years budget  We certainly had one of the best last season and if that is maintained  we should be able to retain most of those we want to keep and recruit some targets  Half a dozen regulars have tweeted their disappointment at the departure of the management team but none so far expressing a wish to leave  admittedly very early days  Im concerned that we do get a credible pre-season arranged this time   We missed out by one point but lost 8 in our first 4 games  Thats where we really lost out imo .

I agree with Gary STFC that the time is right for a change of direction.Steve Bateman and Fred Cummings won't find it hard to get another footballing job and I wish them well in this pursuit.

However,Slough need some fresh ideas and a better blend between youth and experience.Hopefully, our reserve team,in our

forthcoming season will filter players into the 1st team and give 1ST team players time to recondition themselves.

A Keith Scott/Dave Woozley combination may be a good one but I don't think we need worry about a shortage of applicants!

I think Steve Easterbrook has made a brave decision but not a foolhardy one. Only time will tell but I applaud his

gumption for trying.

Thanks to Steve and Fred for past few seasons. As Stuntman Mark says Steve is a decent, honest bloke, always up for a chat after a game and willing to listen to supporters opinions and let you know reasons for his decisions. (it's called talking face to face; some people should try it).

I think it is the right decision, and i hope whoever we get in, we take a few chances with some younger, local lads.

Once i've recovered from watching another team lose in the play offs, i will rush out and buy my Lewes, sorry Slough season ticket.

Dont get too excited you lot even with our HUGE budget Fergie and Mancini wont be coming !!

Still at least the new manager will be aware that for some people promotion is the only thing expected, playoff's just wont be good enough, lets hope he is given the chance before we hear "off with his head".

I am sorry to see Steve and Fred go we have had some bloody happy day's with the two of them and I wish them all the best, just hope they dont come back and bite us on the bum.
