Mark44
Link to local newspaper http://www.sloughexpress.co.uk/Sport/Football/Slough-Town-FC/Bateman-wants-to-remain-as-Slough-Town-boss-09052013.htm Sounds very positive with news of a fresh approach having a smaller more tight knit squad but adding a little bit of quality. If you were Bateman who would you be calling up to come to Slough?

Sir Rebel1965
"It's clear from conversations with real supporters they're 100% behind us. They've thoroughly enjoyed the season and share our disappointment." - I was at the club before you ever turned up Bateman and you accuse me of not being a real supporter. "If we'd fallen so badly short of the play-offs I probably would've just shook Steve's hand and said, 'thank you, that's me done.'" - moving the goal posts Bateman - you said you were set on promotion - you failed for the 4th time with the lowest league position in those 4 years. "One thing that's for certain is we need to do things differently." - problem was he is unable to even come up with a plan B durring a game. Also whilst Bateman is still in discussions with the Chairman he decides to talk to the press - less than professional.
Nathan
That quote is from the Slough Observer article here: http://www.sloughobserver.co.uk/sport/sloughtown/articles/2013/05/10/89234-steve-bateman-expects-to-remain-slough-town-manager/ Is he implying that anyone who isn't behind 100% him aren't real supporters? epicrebel
Nathan & Clive if you'd been at the end of season do you'll know what Steve was implying. Nathan get it right:- Is he implying that anyone who isn't behind 100% him aren't real supporters? He said US Clive no names were named so are you admitting your not 100% behind the club? lol
Nathan
Fair enough epicrebel, it's just that I was wondering about his use of the word "real" supporters. It seemed like a strange word to use in this situation!

Sir Rebel1965
100% behind the club and the players but 0% behind the manager, I personally thought he should have gone 2 seasons ago and he has done nothing to change my view since. First game was before Bateman came back as a manager.
Stuntman Mark
who would you be calling up to come to Slough? I couldn't name names but I want to see a Slough side based on 6-7 local lads sooner rather than later. For me, this is more important than promotion, certainly until we get our own ground. We need more pace, youth and energy and a few who can roll up their sleeves and fight for the badge. Whether this is the way the club wants to go forward, or if Steve Batemen is the right manager to deliver this - I'm not sure, but whoever is in charge and whoever is playing for the Rebels I'll be renewing my season ticket and 100% behind them come the start of the season. COYR!
Mark44
Funny you should say that mark. I quite often see Ryan o toole at my local tesco express. Definitely lives by me. Wonder who else lives close by
Mark44
But yes totally agree. I would sort out left side. Build it around Rhone. Then get a defender and a target man to offer something different against bulky defences
3spirit
The Slough Express headline reads 'Bateman:I want to stay as Rebels boss'.So Steve wants to stay and why wouldn't he? The Slough manager's job is a bloody good one, given the level we play at and the resources available to him. As for the statement in the Observer that the real supporters are 100% behind us,that a misleading quote. All Slough supporters are 100% that they want what's best for the club. However, whether Steve Bateman is best for the club is another matter. If Steve Easterbrook and the board decide to go with Steve Bateman again, for the new season, then I for one, will draw a line under my doubts and wish SB the best of luck in his efforts for our team and hope he is successful and proves his detractors wrong[including me]. I have to admit, though, that this fan currently is only at about 45% sure that Steve Bateman is the manager we need to take the club forward.
